    Default 166 vs Coupe Brembo Calipers

    I have come across some Alfa 166 calipers so I'm exploring a conversion on my Fiat Coupe 16V turbo which has the same brakes as the Q4.

    I have Coupe 20VT wheels which will of course clear 20VT calipers but will they clear the 166 Calipers?

    Is someone offering a bracket off the shelf? I read the thread down the page. It was kind of confusing exactly if they will work without any other mods. Also can the pad be made to contact the disc without the overhang shown in that thread? Can you use different pads?

    I think the 166 calipers are thinner so can accomodate more wheels.

    There is a bracket for 155s to take the 166 caliper.
    For those like me who have Coupe calipers we just used the Coupe suspension upright.

    Aren't Coupe brembo capliers for 305mm disks and 166 calipers for 310mm disks?

    The problem with the overlap comes as the 166 disks are 5 stud (5x108mm) and so would need redrilling to fit on the 155 hubs.

    I've got Coupe uprights on mine and brakes..... but the 166 calipers look a lot bigger. As I have some sitting sould I be able to bolt these on?

    I don't think so - likely the holes are a different distance apart - I can't remember how far though..

    which discs you want to use with 166 calipers? you must put 166's 310mm discs because of the surface of brake pads. 305mm disc also won't fit

    166 calipers are bigger from coupes, and dics pads are wider.

    i'm not sure, but if you put 166 calipers and 310mm disc, i think you can't use 20vt wheels.

    Not strictly correct...there are several of us running 305mm discs.

    Does the fact that the pad overlaps the disk with the 166 caliper\coupe disk solution have any effect?
    I'm sure someone on here said that it would overheat the edge of the disk. Anyone any experience of that?

    I think there is a chance that the edges of the discs could overheat in extreme situations.

    The wear of the pad results in having a lip on the outer edge which in the extreme could also cause a problem (if the 2 lips should ever meet!!).

    Problem is easily solved though by champfering the top edge of each pad fairly dramatically before installing.

    The 166 calipers are taller, whilst the coupe brembos are fatter. I have a set of the brembos on my 24v V6, and the stopping power is quite incredible

    I'm useing fiat coupe 20vt brembos as I can use coupe spacesaver if I get a punture. But have had to fit 10mm spacers so my tsw catalunya's clear the calipers the tsw's are et35.
    On my 155 20vt the tsw multispokes are et37 so I've got 5mm spacers on it

    The overlap issue has been well covered in many posts. It is quite simple to implement a setup with the 166 calipers and the 305mm fiat coupe disks with no overlap. It just takes careful measurement and bracket construction.

    The biggest problem with the whole 166/305 setup is that on a Q4 there is little room for brake cooling - especially with the large 'extra' bracket that you need to attach the 166 caliper. The position of the oil cooler, side engine mounts, the struts, uprights and drive shafts makes getting any brake ducting over 2" in there almost impossible.

    As the Q4 approaches 350 wheel hp the heat generated in the braking system configured like this for a track car means that breaking starts off very good, but fades to nothing after about 10 minutes.
