    Default Drooping belt

Spotted it tonight while fitting the 166 caliper...looks like the aircon pump belt, with about 50mm of deflection and teeth facing downward

Looks like it might have popped off or just become VERY slack

    Any ideas why?

    As posted on alfa155.org:

Errm, if the air con belt goes, I believe you need to say goodbye to the power steering - one drives the other I think.

Alfajack is right, PS is driven by AC.

Check bolts for a loosen one.

Sounds like this is going to be a nightmare job, Ringman has posted on 155.org about how poor the access is!

Don't understand why my belt is on upside down??!!!??

    Can you get any pics?

When were the belts last done?

Got the belt off....what a nightmare!

Bit of video for you....the two small white marks on the belt, near the left hand pulley, are where the belt is only held together with the material (the white bit!), the rubber is totally split...hence why it's floppy I guess.

...and a pic showing the two splits:

    ...and turned through 180degrees:

Yes, it's odd, the auxilliary belt is fine with just some minor cracking and the AC belt is 100%.

I can only guess the timing belt is fine but haven't opened it up yet, will check now!

...I was only planning on tightening the PS belt until after Keswick and then tackling the rest

    Hello,
just a question/remark if the belt is/was fitted to the AC and PS as show it doesn't wonder that it si gone, the teeth shoudt face not to tzhe outside but to the inside due to the small radius of the beltwheels.
Fit a new one in the right way and it will work fine.

    Regards Michael

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum!

I think wrinx turned it inside out to demonstrate the cracks in it.

Afraid Michael is quite right, it WAS running with the teeth facing outward!!!!

I suspect that's why it's cracked so badly...so perhaps it wasn't tensioned correctly or has lost tension??

My feeling is that it wasn't replaced when the belts were last done

Picked up the new belt today....wahey!

    Done!!!

What a p155ing nightmare that was....I'm never touching those tensioners again unless I have to!

Belt went on by turning the engine by hand on the crank

Checked the timing belt and it looks ok...or as well as can be assessed by looking

you better had changed the timing belt now, and you'd not have to touch the accesory belts for a while.... now it's just another job on the list

Sorry to hijack this post, but when i read abort your 166 caliper project, I got very interested.

Have you any pictures of the project, and maybe a "how to do" guide?

You're right, I should...but the bi-annual 155.org meet in Keswick is happening at the end of the month and I can't be sure of having time to do the full job.

    I have faith....

Know I know how to remove the AC belt it will be a five minute job in future

This is a popular modification on 155.org, started by Sub555 I think.

In brief....you need a 10mm mounting bracket (CAD drawing on 155.org), V6 166 calipers (2.5 or 3.0), the original mounting bolts, some 12mm bolts (45mm iirc), 204mm Fiat Coupe turbo discs, @8-8.5mm spacers......and you're away!

Will look for some pics.....thread here: http://forum.berlinasportivo.org/sho...=6108#post6108
