Default New user and Q4 issues!

Hi, im a new user, im From Argentina, ive boght a 155 Q4 a few days ago. This is my first Q4, my father had one and sold it 10 years ago.

Ther car havent worked in two years because the last owner decided not to use it because it was not working fine (black smoke, and doesnt iddle) so the car was without use for 2 years.
Now, ive put a new battery and started it, with a lot of difficult. The car doenst iddle , and it smokes black when I accelerate. It also rattles as if it has a timing problem at all range.
To start the car is a little bit difficult because i cant accelerate it, i have to try several times , and after 10 minutes it starts but if you press de accelerator and the car is cold, it turns off. Also I cant press the accelerator when im starting it because if i do it it doesnt start.
The rest of the car works great, aircon, lights, suspension, etc etc.
Any ideas where to start? .

PD: Sorry for my bad english.

    Hi and welcome

There are quite a lot of members from Argentina here

Sounds like a lot of problems you have there.

Firstly, I expect all the small bore pipes will have corroded a lot - it happens to all of them, check them, but especially the MAP sensor pipe - hard to get to though - its under the inlet plenum! My car smoked when this pipe split as it was over fueling a lot - but it was not black smoke. The idle was also terrible!

    Good luck!
    Jack

p.s - No probs with your English!

Hola de Inglaterra! I'm not sure how different the Alfa inlet manifold is to the Fiat manifold but I found it much easier to remove the rocker cover to get access to the MAP pipe.

well , ive checked the hooses, changed sparkplugs. fuel pump, put some gas , checked oil ,etc etc. Now the car starts great!! but it stays at 1500 rpm , any ideas of why this? aditional air valve? a few times i had to disconnect it because with it connected the car wont start or its verry difficult to start it. The problem is that valve? how can i fix it/clean it?.

    thanks!

1500 rpm might mean the engine is running emergency mode. does it have a lot of power?

Also, they will very likely run a higher idle if the water temp sensor is not connected/not working

I would rebuild the Idle Control Valve then test the water temp sensor:

the car has power , but not a lot. the turbo is not fine, the seals are dead it smokes a lot ! Ill buy a new one.
The car iddles at 1500 rpm, when i disconect the VAE goes to 2000 rpm . this weekend ill clean it and check the water temp sensor.
Also Ive connected the EGR because without it the car doesnt iddle fine when cold, once i have the car running fine , new turbo, etc ill disconect it jeje.

Water temp sensor is coneccted, its near the VAE is that right ?
Whats the difference between "emergency mode " and "normal" , how can i check if it is in "emergency mode" ?

Emergency mode will sort of make the car over fuel, and run badly, not allowing a lot of speed - its like a protection system by the ECU if something is not right.
If you can drive it with relative ease then its probably in normal mode

What do you mean by additional air valve? where is it?

Not sure what VAE is but the water temp sensor sits in the top of the thermostat cup - to the right of the engine head - lots of water pipe in and out of it. It has a blue electrical connection - a 2 pin plug.

The thermostat has two more electrical connections on the side, one is for the water temp reading and warning light in the car, the other is a thermo valve for the EGR system (opens airflow at 40C) - But these two will not affect the idle at all.

The EGR had a vacum hoose disconected, when y reconected it, it started runing more smoother when idle, but it still idles at 1500 rpm.
