    Has anybody seen this:


    No balancer-shafts, and doesn?t seem to use a cranckshaft balancer. What about vibration?

    Sub155's old Twinspark had the balancer shaft removed and it was ok....don't forget the 1.8 Twinspark doesn't have them anyway...

    1.8TS is a total different engine, not only head, I?m right?
    A friend of mine in his Tipo 2.0 16v (same engine as Q4 without turbo) broke his balancer belt and the engine didn?t rev over 4500rpm, and all the car vibrated in a very unsual way, as it?d explote in any minute.

    Don't know how it would affect a Lampredi engine, only that it's fine on a Twinspark.

    I've heard of a few 'grales that have just had the balancer belt removed. If you remove the balancer shafts you then need to sort out the oilways running to them. The theory is that it gives you a couple more bhp (not sure it is that hard to spin up a couple of shafts) and also means that there is one less belt in there to snap and take out the cambelt.

    The balancer shafts spin so freely I cant imagine you could actually feel a difference on a balanced engine - obviously on an unbalanced (standard engine) without them spinning you do feel the difference.

    My car snapped the balance shaft belt when I picked it up from Jack, I drove it to Glasgow from Portsmouth (450 miles) without the balance belt and I can say from personal experience keep it on.

    do not underestimate the vibrations! It is not that important if you feel them or not. They can and will cause problems even in the car chassis. And a couple of hp you can have them anyway.

    The main reason for deleting the balancer belt in the integrale is to allow a wider cam belt and pulleys because the stock one is marginal and there isn't any room in there otherwise. I recently sat in an Evo integrale without balancer and you can instantly tell. Nowhere near as smooth. Its useable, but feels more like a competition car than a road car, over time it would bother me.

    I've run mine without the belt (but with the front shaft locked) for years and I think I've just got used to it. Doesn't both me although at first you can tell.
