    Default Help! No Boost

    hi,
I got a slight problem, my car is making no boost at all, just stopped the other day,
I have checked all the small and large bore hoses for leaks, all ok.
And the car runs fine there is just no boost from turbo.

any ideas what could cause this?

there are no strange noises or smoke ?!

    its ok have found it.
the rod on the actuator has come apart from the wastegate.

great. except it looks like the whole thing has to come off the car to get it back on :x

Oh dear, wonder what caused it to break, rust?

Yes its just corrosion on shaft, and guess the circlip was the weak link,

but i have to admit i have probably made it a lot worse since i cut a whole in the bonnet very nearly above the turbo, and i do live in the rain capital of england.

bit of a pain tho as i had to remove the whole turbo assembly just to replace a tiny circlip

Nope, rod still intact and moving

Can you not get to it from underneath? I've been crawling about under there this morning.

Bugger, guess thats the thing with the plastic ones Think its something weve all got in store!

What are you replacing it with?

well i simply took it off car and refitted the end cap, and firmly pressed down ALL the lugs that hold it on and then strapped it together with giant cable ties, (?!) but its worked and i did a track day yesterday without problems so its not a complete disaster if yours pops off

allegedly someone took vid so if they do i will post the link when it comes along

Over the last few weeks the boost pressure on the Q4 has got less and less, now it is down to only 0.3 bar

So over the next few days I have to play hunt the leak. I have replaced all the small gauge pipes and they seem fine, so will check the main ones but is there anything else I should be looking at ?

Is there anyway to test the Peirburg valve or the Turbo itself ?

Sounds like something is split. To test the Pier burg valve I think you need a specialist bit of equipment - I forget what it is, but I think it can be found in most physics labs

I knew those 3 years at uni doing an electronics degree would come in handy one day.

It probably came in handy on the first day you picked up keys to an Alfa!

Much too techie, an osicil.... something!

Initial mooch doesn't look good, there seems to be oil in the pipe to the air filter and a distinct smell of hot oil after use.

Might need some more serious fixing

Try and take the main inlet pipe up to the inlet plenum off and see if there is oil in that - maybe the turbo seals are shot?
