    Default Iddle/VAE problem

    Hi all,

    I'm having a problem with iddle. If VAE is disconected, iddle is OK. But if I connect it, starts to rev up and down (from 1500 to 2200 rpm).

    I've just took off VAE for cleanning it. It was full of dirty. I didn't meassure the position the internals. I've tried setting it a little open and the a more closed, but it's the same behaviour with boths setups.

    Any one has experience with this?

    Problem solved.

    I assembled wrong, changed springs positions, and that was the problem.

    I'd better drive instead of fix it.

    What's VAE???

    Today my Q4 did same thing.

    Engine running (I was stopped) and rev up and down quickly beetween 1500 - 2200 rpm ...

    Shut down engine. Start again and problem solved.

    Again when I was arriving home...

    Restarting engine was the solution.

    This is VAE:





    It's the valve that controls idle speed.

    It's simple to clean. Just take a look where is the little nut located, so as when reassemble, locate it in the same place.
    And don't mix the springs...

    Thanks Juan.

    But in my case de problem was not permanent. It comes and goes...

    What must be the problem?

    Next weekend I'll see the VAE... but ... where it stays placed in the motor?

    Could be a dirty VAE. The little piston inside must be covered with carbon. Give a try and clean, hopefully will solve the problem. And it's really easy!!!

    This device is located between the engine and the steel tubing that goes from the IC to the throttle body.

    You need to take out that tube (just to work better), then take out two nuts (10mm) and realese in and out hoses.

    Then you'll have to unscrew 3 bolts and voila!!! It's out!!!

    Remember to measure were the little piston is located before you unscrew the little nut (4mm I think).

    I believe this part does a "self-cleaning" process when the ignition comes on, maybe its worn a bit too far?
