    Default New engine

As i came to the power limit of standard engine, i installed new engine over the hollidays.

    Specs:

CPS forged pistons comp. ratio 7.8:1
    Colombo&Bariani street max cams
    Gasflowed head
    Custom made aluminium inlet manifold
    Vernier pulleys
    Spesso Group A headgasket
    12mm head bolts
    Lightened flywheel, balanced with crankshaft
    Siemens DEKA 650cc injectors
    Walbro highflow fuel pump
    Tubular exhaust manifold
    External wastegate
    3" freeflow exhaust
    3 bar MAP sensor
    Front mounted intercooler

Max power 372 hp@5925 RPM, torque 44.2 kgm

Max power is at such low RPM, because ECU cuted the ignition at 1.2 bar boost. Real max power should be around 6400 RPM. I will dyno it again, when i'll write new chip for new 3 bar MAP sensor and 2 bar boost.

What's that strange bump doing in the power graph, around 5100 RPM? It's visible even in the dissipate power graph on the bottom.

Chip is still in developing phase. The "bump" is related to variating boost.

I made some measurements with G-tech. It showed 420 HP@7000 RPM @1.4 bar boost. I also made acceleration run with datalogger from 100-200 km/h and 100-240 km/h.

    100-200 km/h: 9.01 s
    100-240 km/h: 17.13 s

The graph shows, that fuelling is still way off, too rich at low rpm and dangerously lean at high rpm. The next step is 3 bar MAP sensor and raising the boost to 2 bar. I already bought the MAP sensor, but mapping the chip is slow process. So far i have changed RPM and Air dens breakpoints to 8000 RPM and 3 bar, but making test runs and logging data in the winter is hard job to do. Car accelerates so fast, that it is difficult to find proper road.

First, congratulations, you have done a really nice work over there.

Now let's start with the questions:

    - Other values of Gtech? (1/4 mile, 0-100 km/h, 0-200 km/h, etc)
    - Wich wideband are you using?
    - How do you log knock???
    - Do you have the diagram for the C&V cams? (lift, ABTDC, etc)
    - Where did you got those vernier pulleys? webpage?
    - Those injectors are P&P?
    - Are you with std ignition system?

Sorry about all these questions, but I'm really astonished with your results.

Congratulations and I really admire what you have done.

    Thank you.

-I'm currently using some big Holset turbo, because i'm waiting for Garrett GT 30 to arrive.

-I'm using LM-1 Wideband lambda with datalogger.

-I log knock on OEM knock sensor, but i will install additional knock sensor, which is more accurate.

-I'm using C&B road max cams:
    Inlet: 15 deg - 55 deg, 10.3 mm lift
    Exhaust: 47 deg - 11 deg, 8.4 mm lift

-I bought vernier pulleys second hand, so i don't know, from what shop are they

-I don't know what you mean by P&P injectors. I'm using SIEMENS DEKA 650cc injectors, high impendance, which are direct replacement for OEM injectors

-I'm using std ECU and ignition, apart from 3 bar MAP sensor and injectors.

I couldn't measure 1/4 mile run, because we have winter now and road is constantly slippery. With old engine (330 hp) i measured best acceleration time of 4.4 s.

The chip is still in begining of development phase. Because i changed the MAP sensor, i must recalculate all breakpoints and change all the maps.
I also must add additional RPM breakpoints, because engine is revving to 8000 RPM. My goal is 2 bar of boost and some 550 HP. When i optimize the ECU, i will make new dyno run.

Thanks Wolf for the quick answer.
I really appreciate you share your knowledge with us. If I can help you, be sure IŽll do.

    - P&P means Plug & Play. I assume they are for what you said.
    - The knock signal you just connected it to an input of the logger? Any filter?
    - What do you thing about your experience is the goal for get big HP, cams, FMIC, head work, etc? I know each part makes the hole thing, but wich ones do you thing that makes a big difference?
    - I have a Inlet Fiat Tipo cam, what do you thing of this mod?
    - Original rods?

Yes, injectors are plug&play (but you obviously have to change fuel pressure and fuel maps).

I'm logging the knock sensor without any filters, but at high RPM it can sense other vibrations and produce false readings. I use it only for rough estimations of detonation.

I had tipo cam and oem inlet cam as exhaust cam on my old engine. It made a huge difference. Max power shifted to 6400 rpm and engine happily revved to 7500 RPM. It is great mod for such small amount of money.

All mods are very dependant of each other, the largest power increase made cams+headwork, exhaust system and high boost (large turbo).

I'm using OEM polished rods, which are good for 8000 RPM, or even more with stronger bolts.

I'm currently using some big Holset turbo, hmm dont you know more ? I had garrett gt40, with smaller t-3 type turbine .63 A/R and with 59 / 65 mm wings. do you know your turbo measurements ?

It is Holset H1E, but i don't have any other info, because it is hard to find any tech details about Holset turbos.

Here is a short movie of acceleration with new engine. It is still running on 1.3 bar boost, because i didn't have time for writing the new chip yet.

He, he, don't worry. As the downpipe is so huge, i had to move the pressure gauge sensor in place instead of low pressure warning light sensor. Because the conector fow low pressure warning isn't connected anymore, the light blinks randomly.
