    Default Cam belt life

What are everyones views on cam belt life? Seems like 60k km is the given mileage, but what about time? 2 years? 5 years?
At the moment, mine has been in for 2 years and has done less than 2k km.

Normally i (the garage of course )change te cambelt every 45K or within the 3 years with the original chip. somehow the kilomters go faster
At this moment i'm far over the recommended milage(63.400KM), but stil whitin the three years. a little bit more than two years now

A couple of weeks from now and the Alfa specialist doctors will change the cambelt and clutch. Then i can finally use the Squadra combi prom again 8)

    Marc

When changing the cambelt is changed, the tensioners, water pump, etc is replaced. In other words, everything.

Yes, I had the full job:

    Power Steering Pump Belt
    Air Conditioning Pump Belt
    Auxiliary Belt
    Balancer Belt
    Balancer Shaft Bearings
    Balancer Belt Tensioner
    Cam Belt
    Cam Belt Tensioner

Not bad for about £350, but the water pump is about £80 extra though!

True, but when the water pump fails (short) after a cam belt change..... And the cam belt has to be removed for this job.....
The water pump isn't that expensive anymore

so true, but mine let me down about a year ago (cambelt then done 5 months ago)

btw, cambelt can stay in place but the engine needs dropping a bit - thats when I gave up and handed to the experts.

    Hi
I was told by both Walkers (the integrale place) And whalleys ( the other integrale place) that on a chipped/modded engine absolutely 3 years 36k MAX.

It can be done at home tho. given the manual and the time its awkward fiddly but not imposible at all...
you just have to line it up and mark all the pulleys and block where necc. before you take it apart.

As for water pump> do it or dont do it, Cos it can be done without removing belts so its not vital like it is on the Boxer engines...

I was told that the cam-belt {and the rest mentioned above} should be changed every 40K maximum!
Believe me, changing {8 in my case} inlet valves cost more than the belts!!!

    Cheers

    That'll be the sodium guv.

Incidently I've got cut down Q4 exhaust valves in the 650 engine for the Fiat.
