    Question Q4 Fuel pressure regulator.

    Hi all,

has anyone ever had to replace the fuel pressure regulator because it had failed or was failing?

Just thinking about the old fuel pressure issue I had, and it did occur to me that the old regulator was just opening up at low pressure?

    Cheers

    Steve

Never heard of someone replacing theirs but I would hope that they are relatively inexpensive. I know the adjuster screw on mine is seized as the Gonella Bros tried to turn it when it was in with them for high emissions (not that this is an issue these days). Is the little vacuum hose to it in good condition?

I had a look around and I did find an OEM regulator, but it was £150+. But to be honest any referenced fuel regulator should work and you can get one of those from around £65.
I stuck a fuel pressure gauge in a while back, and whilst you can't measure the correct pressure with the engine running it does give an indication. I started seeing my fuel pressure drop to less than 1 bar when I pulled up at traffic lights etc. I knew the alternator was past its best as switching lights on etc saw the voltage in the car drop down to 12-13v, which could have an effect on the pump as well.

So to try and stop this happening in future, and just because the car is 23 years old, I've had the alternator replaced, I'm going to go for a new fuel pump, and if that doesn't help with stable fuel pressure, I'll grab a new regulator.

I'll make sure the pressure reference hose is in good condition as well whilst I'm at it.
