    Default Belt whine

Did a cambelt \ balance belt \ waterpump change complete with all the bearings a little while ago. Since then there seems to be an increase in belt whine, (Similar sound to the whine of a supercharger belt)

Now I thought the whine could have been down to the new pump bedding in, but its been going on for 150km now.

So the question is, where is the whine coming from? It sounds like its coming from the waterpump area. The belts were all tensioned up to the standard 90 degree twist on the longest run rule.

Doing a long trip next week so would like to be able to cure this, or at least disregard it.

    Cheers

I got a whine from the cambelt after a change as it was a touch too tight.

The 90 degree rule is a funny one as it depends how hard we try to turn it which will vary from person to person.

If you think it safe then let a little tension off the belt.

Alternatively drop off the aux belt to see if the sound goes with it.

    Good luck.

I've got the afternoon free so will look into it a bit further, the belt doesn't feel too tight, is it normal to see the belt 'vibrate' whilst the engine is running?

I'll probably remove the alternator\waterpump belt first to see what happens.

Pain in the ass but at least I'll be happier on the trip up.

    Cheers Jack

Does the whinening sound get worse when the engine is on temperature?

Not that I've noticed, its not bad at tickover, gets worse at about 2.5-3k rpm and after that you don't notice it.

Just taken a look and the balance shaft belt seemed a little tight, have slackened the tensioner off and it sounds perfect now. Cheers chaps.
