    Default Any ideas

Whipped the speedo head out today on the Q4 and found this connected behind it

Any thoughts as to what it is ????

The box is connected to the blue wire with a red trace on the left hand side multiplug it also has what appears to be a connection going to a warning light position on the dash .......that never lights up and then two wires disappear off behind the dash

Now i`m thinking its the Japanese speed limiter as all cars there are restricted to 112mph but not 100% sure ...............if i disconnect it it still starts and runs as normal

So what do you lot think it is ???

You mean you haven't tested it to 113mph yet...I'm disappointed!

Do you have a wiring diagram showing where the wires on the left hand plug in the picture go to ????

Should be in the electrical section on the website.

My money is on it being a speed limiter given that the car was from Japan.

I wonder if Jims old car had one as well.

Sure does look like a speed limiter. The wire with lamp on it probably goes to the '180 kph' light on the dash which is below the speedo from memory.

It might just be a module for the light.

Whatever it is it isnt on my car.

Yes thats it. You can just about see what each bit is if you look from the front in the correct light conditions. I have only ever seen it on the earlier 'white dials' cars which also have a little turbo symbol. Twin spark (at least UK cars) don't have it.

I just checked and the one I was thinking of is actually on the other side of the dash beneath the rpm gauge.

I have taken about 4 sets of dashes apart recently and each was different in its own way. I just checked a couple of them and both have a sort of odd watering can / header tank symbol in that position. On the right is the glow plug symbol and the left is water temp.

Neither of the dashes had a bulb in that area. The q4 dash only has 7 of the 15 holes, the rest are taped up by Alfa. The twin spark dash is missing two bulbs.

There I have at least two different types of circuit board an yours is different again. Seems like another case of Alfa making it up as they go along.
