    Default 25mm timing belt.

    Canīt the wide timingbelt be fitted with only the removal of the balancershaft-belt (and leave the shafts in) ??

    I do realize that it would be better to remove the shafts as well, just wondering if a more simpler solution could be done as I recently had the engine out and then left the shafts without the belt, not so eager to take it out completely again..

    On the positive side I already have the gearbox strenghtening plate

    Will the 25mm wide timingbelt kit fit behind the "dust-caps" covering the belt or will this have to be sacrificed ??

    it's impossible to use 25mm timing belt, with normal crank pulley
    because it's only 15mm wide
    i think it is possible if use crank pulley from 1.9 TD engine
    and the timing belt for TD engine which is 22mm

    All conversion kits that i know came with crank pulley.

    My thought was to change all the pulleys (crank included), tensionerbearings to 25mm wide-variant and SKIP the balancebelt BUT leave the balanceshafts in?!

    And question #2 was only will the camcover fit on top of the widebelt-conversion?

    Short answer to your first question: Yes.

    It's always wise to fit the belt covers back, and they fit over the 25mm belt just fine. I once took off a belt with a small hole in it where a stone had gone through, also have seen so much snow build up on one that it dropped into the belt and it jumped a few teeth bending some valves.
    The belt needs protecting from the 'elements' water, salt etc and will last much longer. It's a shame to cover up nice parts, but much safer.

    Getting back to your earlier question, remove all old pulleys and bearings and the 25mm kit will work ok with just the stubs of the shafts sticking out, I have run them like this for a long time with no problems.
    The only possible thing which could go wrong (but hasn't) is this:

    You will be running without the belt idler bearing as this is part of the balancer shaft replacement kit, the purpose of this is to stop the belt (on it's longest run) from flapping at very high engine speeds, if it flapped so far in theory it could catch the belt which goes the other way. I've never seen this happen yet and I've seen it fitted this way to some really hard driven engines for a few years now.
    If you were worried you could fit a simple metal guard in between the two belts quite easily.
