    Default The Olympics

Well its finally started now, I thought the ceremony was great last night, but what does everyone else think. I'm sure lots of non British people found it a little confusing as the start of things was like a condensed history lesson!

It was a really nice show, but it was based on british novels, not on british history.

The first part was history based with the Industrial revolution (back when the UK used to make things, but don't get me started on that!) and then onto the Digital revolution with Tim Berners-Lee.

Oh and I loved the bit with Daniel Craig and the Queen.

I thought it was a bit lame & boring, too many children, not enough clever theatrics although I did enjoy the Forging of the Rings and I thought the Olympic Cauldron was stunning.

Stunning all round. An epic celebration of Britain of what can be done.
A great night to see. There was little narration but it didn't particularly need it.

Well, I think that the Olympics start ceremony has becomes a show that doesn't have nothing to do with Olympic games or what Olympic games represent.
I think that this is an sport competition, the ceremony should be based on sport topics or sports as main themes.
But the today's world is a marketing world and the rule is to show who have the best to offer as show or potentially who have the best technology.
It's happening since many Olympic games ago, not just this one at UK.
Same happens with football world championship, NFL Super Bowl and any other sport event that turn on the "money maker machine".
Not so bad at all because many people love that and live because of that but, my opinion is that we should go back to the origins or even make less show and reinforce the principles of human effort against adversity or sane competition.

Sorry guys, so long. I'm inspired today .... :-)

I guess thats a side effect of all the sponsors money that is thrown at things. I can't imagine an opening ceremony that just had the athletes parading around and then lighting the flame would go down that well.

On a side note, did you know that the good old torch relay which is so popular now, was started in the infamous 1936 Berlin games.
