    Default What car?

Well now I've verified the major mechanical bits for my new project, the question now is what car to put them in.
Ideally I'd like it to be a GTV, but finding one that isn't a wreck or hugely expensive looks like it might be tricky. So that realistically leaves a 75. On the plus side, its got more space under the bonnet, easier to find one in half decent condition, and there seem to be more spares available.

So, hold out for a GTV or settle for the 75?

Well this place is just up the road from me, and it looks like they may have something that fits the bill:

So maybe I won't have to wait all that long.

GTV will be nicer but I bet it will give you a lot more bodywork problems than a 75 would. Depends how long you can stand for it to be a project...

Thankfully the old tin worm isn't so bad this far south. They aren't so keen on salting the roads, and a lot of the time it isn't needed.
I'm going to head up to the place in the link above this coming week to see if they have anything useful on the GTV front.

The only other worry I had with the GTV was the availability of spares, I guess a lot are shared with the 75 but a lot are going to be tricky to get hold of.

Looks interesting, and very cheap, but just looking at those pics it also looks a little on the rusty side!! (Yes I know they will all be.) When you can spot it from a general pic it does get a little worrying though!

I've measured the garage now and a GTV will fit a little better, so thats another plus point in its favor.

To me, i wouldn't hesitate to go for a GTV. 75 is also a nice and beautiful car and also you can easily find the trim parts for 75 but with patience and giving time to GTV would give a better result and look if you like to repair jobs yourself.

I think I've convinced myself to go for a GTV now. Having a look around there seem to be a few around.

This one was posted up today:

    Pranged GTV

Its had a light smack, but doesn't look too bad to fix. Just asked him for a couple more pics. Not that far away either so I can get down there to take a look as well.

Got a few more pics through from the guy selling today.

It looks like the guy had a prang in the car, took it off the road to sort it out but never got round to finishing it. Not sure how long its been stored, but it looks to have been kept dry and off its wheels.

Hes asking ?1500 which seems a little pricey, but from the parts you can see in the pics it looks remarkably rust free. Patching up a bad example could swallow up a whole heap of cash so it could be cheaper in the long run.

The damage at the front doesn't look too bad either, nothing a bodyshop shouldn't be able to knock out for a few ?

Its not too far away from me so might just take a run down there to see what its like in the flesh.

    Any thoughts?

    Hello again,
Just try to bargain down the price. I believe this €1500 can be lowered. I also purchase cars like this and always negotiate with the seller to death and make him to think "He doesn't have anything to loose but I do."

I'm still trying to find out a few more details about the car, but hopefully I can get down to see it soon and start negotiations.

I think I must live in the wrong area of France. I keep seeing suitable cars for sale, just spotted the shell of a 1977 GT (rotten shell but complete car) and a 1976 GTV shell in good condition, pretty much on the other side of the country, well 5 hrs away. All for the princely sum of ?1000.

I'm gonna mail him anyway to check the condition of the cars, you never know they might be worth the trip.
