Default The Alfa 75 Turbo Intercooler.

Came across a pic of the underside of the 75 Intercooler last night:

    and again from the top.

The thing that struck me was that i/c is being used not only to cool the intake air (despite its lousy position) but it is also acting at the plenum.
So what benefits does this offer, how much of the i/c will act as the plenum?

Also the intake path from turbo to head is remarkably short and straight.

In the pic from the top of the engine you can see a cold air feed from the grill, which feeds into shroud on the bottom of the i/c, good idea but surely the cold air feed is far too small, and would be preventing airflow over the i/c.

It seems to me that the 75 Turbo i/c is full of good ideas, but in reality is somewhat compromised.

Certainly is, I always look at the under-bonnet of the 75 and get jealous of all the space. Working from the top is so much easier than from underneath, unless you are jim, but I guess even he still gets rust in his eyes!
