You'll be needing to get a buffer and polishing compounds like G3 and G10 to cut the paint back to a super slick wet look, that where the real skill is. Many a poor coat of paint is saved by the polishers skill.
The finish I was getting was worse that I thought. A microfibre cloth stuck to it like velcro!

Agreed...my Uncle has a Healey with an 8cyl Jag conversion, he painted it bright red from rattle cans and sent it to a friend for finishing, looks like a pro-finish now.

Use it to rub down the other panels...

I've got corrosion of the rear wing on this side, whereas the other side seems fine.

So is it down to a chemical reaction with petrol\fumes escaping from the filler, or is it down to the fact that the other side is close to the exhaust so gets heated up and any moisture is evaporated off?

Oh and remember, when a man gets married, he wants his wife to stay the same, then gets upset when she changes.
A woman however gets married wanting to change her husband, then gets upset when he stays the same!!!

Yes, they're all worse on the filler side...Q4s that is!

My theory is the fuel vapour degreases the panels

This problem occurs also with the normal models of the 155's.
    Had a couple of 1.8 8V's and a 2.0 8V with the same problem.
If I remeber correctly, the Savali 3.1 had the same problem.

I agree with you that it probably has something to do with spilling fuel or something like that.

    Marc

A quick update as other will have seen elsewhere:

Starting to get a shine - roof and OS rear quarter done (only flatted in the pic) so far...I like to take my time.

Maybe another 6 months and it will be done!!

The colour looks great but the photos make it look poor due to the resizing and compression.

It looks like a very good job to me. Congrats! It's always nice to find the time to take care of your car by yourself, isn't it Jack?

    Cheers,

Looking good in the pics Jack, although I did double take the rear 3/4's pic and then re-read your post. I thought you were pre-pinking the red colour.
