    Default Cam Sensor

It would appear this may be the reason my old Q4 is popping when starting, and occassionally being a bit of a pain to start.

So how does it work and are there any serviceable parts inside? From memory it can be rotated to change settings??? How does this work and how should it be set?

do you mean the 'timing sensor' {or hall sensor} placed on the exhaust cam?
If it is the same with my topic, na15575 has posted an answer

no, there are not any 'serviceable parts inside'.
Do not know the problems with wrong placed one.

    Does these help you?

I do, just checking the manual and found what it is called a "timing sensor"...then, realised we both have threads on the same subject

The manual only mentions the sensor briefly and says: "...informs the injection-ignition control unit of the engine intake sequence".

So I can only assume that incorrect alignment will cause the car to run very badly as the timing will be wrong, like turning a distributor cap too far.

I think the only way to test them is with an oscilloscope to measure the wave form???

Thanks for the drawings, they're more comprehensive than what I've found in the Alfa manual! But sadly I can't read them

I do not know what the incorrect alignment can cause, most probably you are right saying "like turning a distributor cap too far". See the other topic.

My problem with this sensor is that yesterday I managed to brake the plastic 3 way connector {see attachment, where the red line is} on top of it and if I won't find a replacement I'll be forced to change the complete sensor which is no longer available!!!! I have no problems startting and driving the car but 'ignition' warning light is on now and I do not know how far it will go.

You can not read them cause they are in Italian of for the bad image quality?

Try to post them again using imageshaft but they are too big and can not upload them.
If you need them send me your e-mail and I'll try to send them to you.

Incorrect setting can cause ignition problems during engine start and gives you a bank before engine start.

    Nick,
Do you have an e-copy of that manual, or where to get it from?

I can't get any of the FCCUK files to open???

Edit: Looks like they've been moved to the "Members Zone", for paid up Club members.

I'm just a registered member {not paid one} and I downloaded some from there.
Did you try to just register?

Any way, if someone need something else {and I have it} I'll try to send it via e-mail.

Last link from wrinx covers the iaw and I realized that there are some extra valves for the fuel vapour recovery system.
