I looked at those but couldn't work out why it has three connections

I bought a simple brass thing with two connections, for about ?15 iirc.

This replaces the pierbrg valve. You just block the little hose on top of it and connect the two pipes under to the MBC.

    Left mine connected

It's not affecting the boost as the pipes are moved to the MBC.

After buying a secondhand EBC I'm now seriously considering a Gizzmo, they look simple to set up and have good reviews

I did. I think one goes to the ecu and the other to earth. It just gives signal to the pierburg valve to switch the solenoid to allow the full boost.

Correct, mine was pants...fit the MBC and you're into another world of boost!

Mine's set at roughly 1.1-1.2bar to avoid the higher (damaging) spikes.

Your other option is to fit another Pierberg, Pavs bought one from the USA and says it's great.

I think Pavs was giving 1.1 all the time, so it was a boost controller without the adjustment. Looked like a pierburg but if it was giving 1.1 all the time then the ECU wasn't talking to it properly.

Here's a pic. I thought I had removed the pierburg Either way it doesn't matter.

That looks similar to mine, except for the brass thumbscrew...decided I wanted to be able to adjust it to suit my mood so fitted mine inside the car:
