    Default running temperature

when cruising the highway it seems to get cold, the oil stays okay, at least above 60-65, but the watertemp seem do drop quite low, at least down to 70 degress. And when standing still or driving in the city is gets equally hot, again specially the water, but also the oil temp. Water temp seems getting close to 100 celsius, or maybe more if im reading the gauge right.

What should i check? water temp sensor? thermostat?

or does it sound normal. I'm pretty sure it used to stay more stable before, at least when cruising the highway. I has allways been getting hot in when going sloooow and waiting at the traffic lights.

    thanks

If the temp is low when cruising your thermostat is shot...but I'm not 100% sure where the guage should read for normal on a Q4. Engines usually read about 89-92 when the fan comes in.

If the car is overheating then there are more possibilities, radiator shot, first or second stage fans not working. Check your radiator and short the fan to check. Second stage is the red wire from the radiator switch, short it to ground and the fan will come on.

I've just fitted an override switch for exactly this reason

Definitely the thermostat. Does the temperature rise quickly when standing still? The fan kicks in at ~92 degrees?

The engine temp should stay at aprox 92 degrees and oil temp equally or a couple of degrees lower. But I think ambient temp can rise these values higher {city traffic too}.
I never saw such low temps {60 - 70} here in Greece even during winter time, so check thermostat first.

    Thermostat...bit of a pain!

You'll probably struggle to get the part...some of us have removed the EGR pipework and fitted Fiat Coupe stats, from memory it's the n/a 16v but check the thread posted by Alfajack.
