    Default Strange starting behaviour

Had this since I bought the Q4....if it's not been used for a week or so it will start on the button. But later in the day or subsequent days it will need some gas first, sometimes I even have to release the key before it kicks in to life!

Replaced the water temp sensor and thermostat, neither made any difference.

    All very odd....any ideas?

Very similar to mine., after not being driven for a few day will start absolutely instantly on the turn, other times it does take some cranking over - used to it now so I just let it fire up - no idea why though..

Opinion on 155org is a lazy ignition relay so will check that first.

No update yet, I'm having a lazy period and haven't looked at the Q4 for a while.

It wouldn't start at all this morning....flat battery!

Thought I'd better go and give the beasty a bit of attention...didn't want to start and then struggled to idle

Eventually did it...I'll have to look into this and clean the idle thingy as well

Not easy, almost 1,5 hr to do the job.
    Refitting should be easier.

The thread is about difficult starting when used regularly and needing to use the throttle to start the car, you've said you have the same symptoms and suggest it's the starter motor.

    Sorry, but I can't see a link....

    Does that affect starting too?

My idler issue was always solved with a quick stab of the throttle but yesterday it was really bad...so it definitely needs sorting.

If only I could remember which bit it is...

I couldn?t start it even using the throttle.
The start motor did nothing even a noise, a couple of time when I released the key, suddenly started. I checked the relays, and where OK (replaced them individually with a good one).
So got my multimeter and checked the starter motor, and there I saw that voltage was OK. So took out the starter motor, checked it outside, and didn?t want to work.

I think I had the same problem as you guys except that my engine wasn?t turning when started. So should be just a coincidence that the engine started when releasing the key.

I had a very similar problem on my previous Q4ka(the engine would sometimes start sometimes not even a noise of it or the engine would turn but not start) guess who's fault was it?Sensor on the crankshaft.

But my starting motor is not turning, has nothing to do with rpm sensor.

    I think I have made a mess.
Someones are having/had problems when starting the engine with the starting motor TURNING, they should play with the throttle to start the engine, or when they released the key, the car would start.

My case (the only one ) is that starter motor wasn?t turning, and when the key was released the starting motor did turn, and the engine started (this occurred only 3 times).

Can the startermotor be changed from top side of the engine?
I read from manual that "easy way" to change, but that is not option at all.
On the same time I can change my injectors and checking all the hoses.

Or will I waiting that my garage comes from vacation?

Surely is the easiest way to change it, the other one would be with the engine out.
I did it and it wasn?t so difficult.
A difficult one is to change the PS belt and tighten it!!!
