    Default 1" cambelt kit.

I seem to remember reading about this 1" wide cambelt conversion a while ago. Just wondering if anyone has it fitted?

It was a conversion using parts from a Fiat Ducato I think. I remember that countershaft belt should be removed.

I bought one, the offset on the crank pulley is wrong which means the belt overhangs the camshaft pulleys, this means that whilst you have traded up to a bigger belt it's not much use if some of the extra width isn't being used and hanging over the edge.....

I had to re-engineer it all to make it work. If you are running standard or only mildly uprated cams then stick with OE, if you are running some wild profile cams on a serious engine then then the re-engineered kit is worth the money IMO.

I have one set on my car.

    Pictures:

The belt goes out about 1-2 mm. I don`t do anything about that. Engine is still in working condition.
Engine support has some mild modification, otherwice your belt will hit on that support.

This is what it looked like when I did a dry build:

I turned the engine over a fair few times till it settled in, then I compared the new btm pulley with the old one and noted a 3mm difference which explained why it was doing this.

Does the original cambelt cover still fit over the pulleys?

Yes you have to, it won't fit with them.

As to whether the belt cover fits on a Q4 or not I don't know, you would hope so because without it you are skating on thin ice....

Belt cover will fit. No problem.

Evodelta: I have the same problem with that belt line. It goes out about 1-2 mm. But it`s still better than old thin belt.
What was the difference between new and old btm pulley? 3mm, but where? has the new one 3 mm extra wide or what? How you re-engineer that parts? Do you have pictures after they were re-engineered?
