Quick shift design.
I thought I'd start a new thread for this to keep it from cluttering up the other one.
I've done a quick design for the quick shift kit. I've tried to keep the actuator rods in the same plane as when the kit isn't fitted to prevent any problems.
Can anyone see any problems with the design so far?
At the moment they are just rough outlines, I will still need to get the correct measurements for various parts.
-
Exelent job! i dont see anything wrong with the pictures. I thnik you made models great. now users with kit fitted only needs to take some basic measurments and we are done :)
but your design is little different in pic. 2.. take a look at this design.

yuhu. this makes me so happy ...

The brackets in that link will shift the connectors on the ends of the rods sideways by 5mm or so. The way I have drawn the brackets will mean that the connectors stay in line.
I hope that makes sense.

Nicely drawn Steve

I can get some of the dimensions from the standard gear linkage, its the length of the quick shift brackets that I'll need help with.
Am I correct in assuming that people won't want to have to cut the metal surround to make this fit?
-
IMO it would be best not to have to cut the metal to make it fit. But if it is necessary I'll do it. :)
And very nice drawings, will be an awesome mod.
-
Has anyone got a standard gear shift to hand? Save me pulling the car apart to get the measurements of various parts.

To all of those that are waiting for this, progress is being made slowly, so keep checking back .

Hi all!
It's a long process already, isn't it? :thinking-011:
BUT:
Probably I'm able to get one NEW short shift kit for V6! It should also fit for Q4.
I'll see in a few days or even a few weeks.
So I think it doesn't matter, if we wait some more days! Please be patient... :smoke:
When I got it, I can give you all the exact measurements for reengineering it...
I've also a standard gear shift available on my attic... for easily trying if the short shift kit will fit.
Or to do the measurements, that are neccessary if I don't get it...
Cheers! Martin

Good man :)
I tried to buy the kit from Japan but the shop didn't reply to emails :(
If you manage to get one you'll be very popular

i got reply from them but only when my friend emailed in their language. and they said : we do no ship to europe. tnx.
ill try mailing again and ask if they would be more interested in sending to europe if we buy like 10pcs.
-
Wonder if they'll ship to nearer home, such as Australia or New Zealand...?

Hello again!
OK. Let' see what I (we) got till now.
1. I read this thread...
2. I found another webshop with this part (I was viewing the picture and wasn't able to read anything ) in Japan. Nowhere else... of course :wah:
3. I have a friend. His wife ist from Japan. The grandma and grandpa of his children live in Japan.
4. I sent him the link, called him and asked him to ask his wife if she would write an e-mail to the shop: Is this part available? How much pieces? How to do the payment? And so on... the usual questions...
5. They wrote back after about 36 hours and the wife of my friend translated.
6. The part is available! They accept paypal!
7. I phoned my friend and asked him to order one piece (for the first time, let's say as a prototype...) for me (I'm not registered at paypal) in order to check if it really works...
Another reason for not ordering more pieces at the moment is, that we can be charged by the duty when we are above a value of about 50 euros!
So, that is it for now. I'm waiting...:smoke:
Probably "the grandma" sends the short shift kit with sweets for the children in one package... :lol-030: I don't know. I said to my friend that he has a free hand over the way on how this thing comes to me. He may do as he likes it best.
Cheers, Martin

Excellent, will this shop not post to Europe either?

First of all: NO news at the moment...
My friend promised to inform me when there is something new. I think in this case no news can be either bad or good news... :thinking-011:
We (his wife, my friend and I) can ask "the shop" afterwards, if they would send it also to europe. Probably they send it directly to europe. It seems possible. But first we decided to test the availability in the above mentioned way... If it works, and the kit fits, we will do the next step... I think.
So, let's wait again... :smoke:

Ciao amici! Hi Guys!
I've got a call from my friend this evening!
He got the quick shift kit from Japan today!:hyper:
Tomorrow he will send it to me. This means I'll have to wait a few days (weekend is quite near) until I'll hold it in my hands. Then I'll check the fitment.
If you would like to be sure that it fits you can wait until I've done the check. :smoke:
BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO WAIT, HERE ARE THE GOOD NEWS FOR EACH OF YOU WHO'S INTERESTED:
Write an E-Mail in English to Sue at "FLATOUT Staff", E-Mail: info@flatout.jp that you would like to order the part at the link:
http://www.flatout.jp/store/item/zoo...detail_id=2041 (copy the link to the Mail)
Do not forget to write that you would like to do the payment via PayPal or ask for other possibilities like credit card payment.
Some facts on "FLATOUT Staff":
Sue wrote back to my friend in English language.
They did the payment via PayPal.
They sent the quick shift kit directly to Europe - Austria - Vienna.
The price was 8400,- Yen plus 1200,- Yen for the shipment to Vienna. These are about 93,- Euros.
I'm quite sure that they will send it to any place in europe and I think they would probably send it to other places in the world. You may ask that in your mail.
As my friend told me, to do the whole transaction via the online shop is a little tricky because you would have to do a registration process for the webshop in japanese language.
For sure I can't give you no guarantee that it works. But I think it is worth to try it. :thinking-011:
Buona serata (good evening), Martin

And I tried it on Monday...

It fits perfect!
I didn't fix the second bracket (with the black washer) in order to get it off again...
At the moment I'm a little short of time but I'm working on a drawing with the exact measurements... It will take some more days.
I also did some measurements on the way for gear shifting. It's a little bit difficult because I've done this all an my second gear shift off the car. It is about this:
BEFORE:
LEFT-RIGHT: ca. 12,5cm
AHEAD-BACK: ca. 20,5cm
WITH QUICK SHIFT KIT:
LEFT-RIGHT: ca. 10,5cm
As you can see on the fotos, there are two variants (2 holes) for changing the way to shift "AHEAD-BACK"...
LONG (lower hole):
AHEAD-BACK: ca. 17,5cm
SHORT (upper hole):
AHEAD-BACK: ca. 17,0cm
Please feel free to ask questions, if there are any!
Best regards, Martin
