I'm sure we were discussing this before, but I guess it got lost at the start of the year.
Anyway, had a quick look at the manifold when I had my head stuck under the bonnet yesterday. Am I correct in assuming that to get the inlet manifold off with the head\engine in situ, all the lower jubilee clips need to be placed so you can get to them with a screwdriver\socket from above?
Yes that is right. Will be hard otherwise.

the inlet runners are connected to the head via short rubber tubes that are held in place by clips that you use a screwdriver to tighten up. (jubilee clips)

If you can get to them from the top then getting the inlet manifold off of the car is a lot easier.
I've not seen a Kappa inlet manifold fitted to a Q4, ?10 isn't much money for one, but you will have to work out if it is worth fitting if it doesn't flow much better than the standard Q4/ Especially if it will need lots of work to make it fit.

There are a couple of 8v Integrale ones on ebay at the moment for @ €70.
There are pics of the Kappa inlet manifold on a website that Wrinx linked to. Without seeing one in the flesh I don't know whether I would bother swapping it for the standard Q4 one.

The inlet runners seem to be considerably shorter than the Q4 ones, this is going to favour top end power at the expense of low end torque.
But to me the plenum looks to be pretty small. Opinions vary on the ideal size of the plenum but they usually fall in the 0.8-3 times the displacement of the engine. I'd say the Kappa inlet is right at the lower end of that. When the plenum is too small, then you start to get imbalance in the amount of air being admitted to each cylinder.
As with all these things though, it would be interesting to do a back to back test on the same engine, with a Q4 inlet then a Kappa one to see exactly what difference it makes.

The best way to improve intake manifold is build new one with easier injector accessibility...
I have tried on my 24v naturally aspirated with small plenum from 12v (capacity 2.7 liter) and big plenum (originally from 24v, capacity 3.9 liter) and difference are huge in hi revs with bigger plenum.

Kappa manifold beats the Q4 manifold all day long, much better. Still left a little lacking if the cylinder head is worked over, it's a little too narrow a runner. I like them though.
Tapering the plenum doesn't do a great deal, the air is still banging into the end and runner distribution suffers as such.
Shortening the runner doesn't make much difference to low rpm performance if combined with head porting and quality manifold design, the gain you might get from the pulses doesn't really happen on a normal manifold anyway, its all a bit too hectic in there with it being a single plenum. A shortened runner than is provided with the means to utilise the intake pulses (two plenums with a dividing partition) is a different matter, it'll give you an extra shove when the engine is at it's best performing.
I have been looking for a kappa manifold for ages - anybody have any ideas where I can source one?

i think fitting a Kappa inlet manifold have even advantages and disadvantages. it is the cheapest solution for having something more and of course the advantage is that there is a direct air flow but i think is smaller than ours.
