MBC arrived today....smaller than I imagined  but looks to be reasonable quality.
Just puzzling over how to make a case and fit it in the cabin. :smoke:

What sort of hose are you going to use?
Been considering fitting one inside but due to small people having access I have decided to go for the normal under the bonnet solution.
Will be ordering parts over the next few days and will have a play.
Nuts....just reading about pressure hose, guess the vacuum hose won't cope with the pressure....never gave it a second thought :doh::doh:

...and others have talked about vacuum hose....had me going there!!!
This is what it looks like...bit worried about "spike", lots of websites reckon this is a problem if it's not installed in the engine bay, any comments?

It wasnt intended as one to begin with but I see the issue you may have as the air in the pipes is compressing over a longer distance the wastegate will take longer to open allowing more boost - I am just guessing here. Perhaps this is what a boost "spike" is
I think silicon is ok, but the turbo might melt it if its connection directly to it. The standard setup has the hose come off the turbo, then there is a joiner for a second bit of hose, if you do away with the second bit conenct the silicon stuff there it should be fine :) Mine is using fuel hose for its short distance.
The install looks great btw
Not a clue to be honest, I think spike is when the boost creeps over the max set by the controller....not sure why it happens, but perhaps the tube length means there's a delay in the effect of the MBC.
Yeah, I was planning to join to those as they're braided
Ta...it's been a lot of hassle so it had better work ok!!!

Silicone hose is the best stuff for the job and you should be ok with it, not enough heat from the inlet side of the turbo to melt it. If you want some cheaper stuff PDQ then visit a B&Q Depot, they have clear PVC tubing for pennies.
A boost spike is when the boost rises so hard that it goes beyond the max figure and then settles back to it, I dunno why people complain, boost spikes are fun! (see aforementioned Autospeed site for better explanation)
Personally I can't see the point in in-car boost control (once it's set what can you do?), but I know you like to see your gadgets on display. :tasty:
 Not so much about having them on display...but I really only want to run the full boost when I'm feeling playful ;)
Otherwise I want to be able to turn it down, to perhaps 1bar so, it's just usable around local streets.
The run I did with the Pierburg disconnected told me the boost rises VERY quickly so less would be smoother around town
Wish I'd known about B+Q, just spent ?15 on another 4m of the expensive stuff

you will still need to stay below the boost figures that are coded into the boost limit table.
you simply rewrite that section and burn it to eprom and banzai!
Now I've seen if fitted internally looks good. Maybe its an option.
Might wait to see how you get on before installing mine.
perhaps.. but as you can't see into the squadra chips tables (for boost limit or anything else) you won't know what the boost limit is set to for any given RPM..
Presume the top line is revs? 0.75bar at 400 revs is amusing
wrinx
yes, its funny - the boost limit table gets its 'row and column' data from the overboost table - so I guess that had to put in some values that looked 'linear' even if they are not very useful :)
Connected up the Q4s boost controller today (was waiting for more hose!) and took it for a spin to set the boost level...and again...and again....and again!!!
Never seen 1.2bar boost on this car and it's amazing  Power comes a little sooner and much more swiftly...not quite brutal but it's damn quick....I reckon the old Pierberg valve must have been on its last legs for quite a while
Boost needs knocking up to about 1.4 yet, but just 1.0bar is fun! I'm expecting the demise of the turbo very soon and the engine gets very warm, might have to install an over-ride switch for the fan (how did you install yours?).
Overall...VERY impressed, it's become the car it should be.
So Jack, either your MBC is cack, or you have a leak/worn turbo????
wrinx
Oh...forgot to say, it will HOLD 1bar+ boost now instead of trailing off
Very addictive...

Best buy some shares in Shell......
Yeah....already thought about that

Good stuff. I took the MBC apart today - its so damn simple I cant see how it can fail. Probably a leak or worn turbo - will see but im not rushing to fix it as it will require money!
