166 Brake Conversion on to a 155

Here are some pics of fitting 166 V6 brake calipers to my Q4. Seems a tried and test conversion for not a lot of money

I am using: 166 V6 calipers, 166 pads, Fiat Coupe 20vT disks and 10mm mild steels brackets, 166 caliper bolts and high tensile nuts and bolts fix the bracket to the hub
Will be done over the next couple of weeks

The brackets are custom made using a CAD drawing that I think Cream on 155.org had designed - I sent the drawing to a precision metal cutter here in Kent and I got them for £60, I am still not sure about the strength of them (these concerns came up after I had them made) - but I am getting some info about it :)

anybody knows if the calipers (brembo 4 pots) and disks from a fiat coupe 20 v turbo fits an alfa 155 q4?

I am not sure yet - but there are a few cars in the UK with the exact mod working nicely :) I am waiting to buy good discs for mine - need more £££ though!

Yes, but you need the uprights as well afaik as the calipers are slightly larger than 166 calipers...there's a huge thread on 155.org about this upgrade.

I could have got this wrong though :roll:

What size rims do you need for the 166 brakes? Will they fit inside of 16" rims?

Also one of the issues I've got with 'big brake' upgrades is are they really needed? Yes they look good, but I've done a number of track days and have never had a problem with fade or lack of braking power. Yes I've worn pads out but never overheated the brakes.
Also do people adjust the compensator after the brake upgrades? Surely upgrading the front brakes will change the front/rear braking bias.

Personally I think they are needed, iv a couple of times cooked the brakes and had a lot of fade - I think the Q4 is quite a heavy car. This was a while ago, but tomorrow I am doing a trackday at Bedford so I will see how they perform.

Not sure about the bias thing, I guess a tighter spring would help.

They need 17" wheels to go inside - Wilwoods would fit inside 16"s though :)

They will fit under SOME, bit not many, 16" wheels (Sub had some) but 17" is most likely.

They will not fit under Speedlines :roll:

Right, I am retracting the above, I was mightily impressed by the brakes at Bedford Autodrome this weekend - obviously fresh fluid is doing its job better than the old and they were stopping the car perfectly well - and this is considering the lack of rear brakes due to a siezed slider (one pad is down to metal, the other has 40% left!)

I am going to stick with some good pads and disks on the standard calipers - it also means I can get some smaller track day wheels and not worry :)

What pads and disks do you have on at the moment? And what fluid have you got? Isn't Castrol SRF supposed to be the cats kahunas?

They are EBC Turbo groove disks (past their best id say) - Pads are Ferodo 2500s, cant remember the fluid but its nothing special.

Are they going on your Q4 Wrinx? What width tyres are you going with on the wheels? With 15mm a spacer aren't you going to be pretty close to having the tyres protruding?

They are going on the Q4...and yes, it's going to be damn close!!! I think it'll be ok though...really only wanted 10mm spacers but you can't get 10mm hubcentrics without spending ?60 a pair! There might be a bit if skimming allowed on these ;)

Will be doing a test fitting this week at some point....
