View Full Version : Q4 Exhaust
Well the Q4 finally spat its exhaust out of the back just before Christmas so it looks like the next expense has just arrived. Anyone know if there are any suppliers who supply these or is it as I expect a custom made job ?
Looking on the Integrale and Fiat coupe forums it looks like a 2 1/2" stainless system with removable "cat" and twin DTM style back box may be the best to go for as it should fit with out the grounding issues of a 3" system.

As far as I know there aren't any aftermarket companies that do a Q4 exhaust so that kind of limits you to the standard one from Alfa, or get one made up.
Depending on what you are after it can either be pretty cheap, or bloody expensive.
A full 3" stainless system will cost a small fortune as it will probably need to be made on the car. It will probably also rub\ground at various places.
If you want to go this route, I've only ever heard good things about blueflame exhausts. Blueflame. (http://www.blueflameperformance.com/)
At the other end of the scale, you can use the downpipe from a grale (it doesn't have the pre-cat but does include a flexipipe) modify is slightly, then get yourself a couple of metres of 65mm exhaust tube, a couple of 45degree bends, and a rear silencer. Take it down to a friendly garage, and he should be able to fix it all together in a couple of hours. (this is what I've got, and did it myself with the car up on ramps)
Also if you don't mind playing the system, you DO NOT need cats on a skinny bodied Q4 in the UK. There is a loop hole in the system that states any car not in the DVLA database that was made pre '95 only needs to pass a not cat emissions test.
And the skinny Q4's are not on that list. So you can get a legit MOT without cats.
Hope some of this helps.

I wish we had a loop hole like that :o
In the Netehrlands every car that is registered after 01-01-1992 . has to be equiped with cat(s).
3" doens's have to be a problem. My exhaust is custom buid by EPS (http://www.uitlaten.com/main.html) and they put the 3" pipe a bit higher and closer to the under body of the car. Only the extreme speed bumps are sometimes a challange, but I hit them seldom.
Annother great advantage of 3" is the turbo spools up a bit quicker :P
Greetings,
Marc
I have stainless steel exhaust pipe all the way under my car. I also dynoed my car after that and 3" pipe with two silencer give me 220 HP. No other modification doesn`t do before that dyno run, after a lot

Looks like we are going the custom made root, the guy that looks after my cars has had systems made up for SZ from Quicksilver in London. Once I know the damage I will let you all know.
Thanks for the help.

I used Quiksilver in the past for the Q4, and wouldn't use them again. Not sure if they had an off day, but the welding was poor and tube diameters were pretty small. But this was a few years ago so they might have improved since then.
Well finally had the exhaust fitted by local specialists http://www.gds-exhausts.com/ who have done a superb job.
2.75" right through with a single rear box and a oval tail pipe similar to what was on it. They have fitted a CAT bypass tube and made a CAT pipe with a one of the CATs for MOT purposes (if necessary). They have also offered to swap out the CAT back in free of charge for each MOT.
The sound is lovely, rorty but not too loud, although you can now hear it coming. Along with the Squadra chip the car is transformed.
Very happy camper :D :D :D
i can totally recomend www.alfatech.ch not only for the Q4 but for all alfas, they sound great and are properly made.
Serge, are you talking about CSC exausts?
Mine is a direct 3" inox tube from cats to final box.
Souns beautifully
But final box is all rust! It will need a new one, soon...
