Hi All,
Finally the car is all back together, running perfectly and ready to use.
However I've found the reason why the oil temp gauge isn't working, the connector seems to have dropped out of the sensor, however I can't find the cable\connector anywhere in the engine bay.
If anyone can take a pic, or trace the cable going to the oil temp sensor it would be much appreciated.
Sensor circled in the pic attached.

May have spoken too soon on the running smoothly front, I appear to have a misfire, most likely cause at the moment is the gauge of wire used on the coil ignitors.
More parts arriving this week, and hopefully able to give it another try at the weekend.

Ok, just taken a look through the Electrical supplement on the website to try and clear things up. Might have found the answer, but could someone have a quick check to see how many small wires they have connected to the back of their alternators?
I've got a feeling that there should only be the 1, however mine appears to have 2 connected to it at the moment. Hopefully one should actually be connected to the oil temp sensor.

Not the best picture but it seams like there are one tinny white and a fatter red going in...

Finally sorted out the Oil temp issue, due to the fact that it looks like someone has replaced wires under the bonnet and used all the same colour, I had to get inventive.
Checked the operation of the oil temp sender and then grounded out the 2 possible wires that could be the feed to the guage 1 by 1. Luckily when grounding one of them the gauge flicked across to hot so was able to confirm that was the wire supposed to be connected to the sender unit.
Just a helpful hint for anyone in the future, don't try to do any work in that area after the car has been running, even for just a couple of seconds, thats all it takes for the manifold to get to back of the hand burning temperatures.

Thanks, it does look as though my wiring has been butchered somewhere in the past as I've got a different connector and different coloured wire. But I'm happy to say I took the car to work this morning, behaved perfectly and the oil temp gauge worked.
