Hello from Austria!

In this thread i will sum up the restauration work on my Q4.

As written above we started with the welding of the right side pannel (rust everywhere):

That looks almost identical to mine!

Had the outer arch repaired the same as you, with a panel from another car. I've now found rust around the fuel filler bracket (which fell apart) and inner arch.

Oh dear...I really hope welding is an overnight learning process! I bet mine is similar!

Hi Guys!

In my case i am glade that the part car was in such good condition, i won't imagine what i had done without it. If you have to rebuilt every panel sheet yourself it is really hard work. The welding itself is not that complicated, but you need much power of endurance to do that restauration job.

In the meantime we came forth with the right side panel:

As you can see below the left side it nearly worser:

Hi Guys!

In the meantime we painted the rear end of my Q4 with black gravel deflector. Yesterday we begin to convert some good parts (brackets, braking tubing, brake power regulator...) from my Q4 parts car.

Next week we will start the overhouling of the rear axle!

Does anyone know were to get bearings and bolts for the rear axle linkage? The bearings are similar to all Fiat Tipo, Tempra, Coupe... but the bolts and spacer sleeve are longer!

damn, that is a lot of work...I thought the 155 is much better rust prevented than a E36 at example...

Hi Konstantin!

Thanks for your approval, for my luck i found a nearly rustfree 155er bodyshell for sheet metal cut out! In Austria the main problem is salt in winter time. The last few years the consitence becomes really bad for corrosion.

AlfaJack: After the welding process we grind the weld lines as good as possible and use a coach gluten. In the next step we have sprayed gravel deflector on it.

wrinx: Thanks, it is really much work, but i hope we can finish the paint job this year. Further more i am glade we safed one Q4, because there are only less left in Austria!

Hi guys!

At first all the best wishes for 2021.
Through the Corona lock down in Austria, we found some time to work an my Q4 project.

Starting in march we tried to find the best doors that i had available on stock:

http://abload.de/img/20200410_100148lkklv.jpg http://abload.de/img/20200410_100151ahjku.jpg

In parallel we finished the welding on the bottom side of the chassis:

Hi Christian,

Nice to see the car coming together, is this really the same car that you started work on back in 2013?

And I thought I took my time doing a few jobs over the summer!!!

Great work though, keep it up.

Hi Steve!

Thanks for your reply.

Yes this is still the same car project....it is really madness how time flies!
But to be honest it was not the only project wich we were working on, but the lengthiest...

I have bought this Q4 in 2008 and droven two years....in 2010 we started the first appraisal of the conditions and were faced with the decision to scrap or restore.
In 2014 we started the first welding work on the body until 2015....and 2020 during the Corona Lock down we started again with preparations for painting.

Excellent work, you can immediately see the thoroughness in the restoration.

In Russia, too, there is a big problem with salt on the roads in the winter, so after the recovery I made the decision not to operate the Alfa Romeo in the winter.

Hello Babei_155!

Thanks for your feedback, we are just keeping on working.
At the moment we have finished priming and sanding all components to start the painjob at a local company in the next weeks.
In summary, except for the trunk lid, all attachments were exchanged for good used parts.
I am particularly proud of the original Q4 bumpers that I bought years ago.

Best wishes to russia!

Which shock absorbers do you have? I am trying to find a set for mine which are close to the OEM specs in softness.

alfacorse155
12-02-21, 15:42
Hi AlfaJack!

Thanks for your feedback.

I have just looked up in my documents, i have installed gas pressure shock absorbers.
At the front i have bought Sachs (170 388) and at the rear I have bought original dampers from ebay:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/2x-Stosdampfer-HA-Alfa-Romeo-155-Q4-2-0-Turbo-original-Ersatzteil-NEU/201555450110?fits=Model%3A155%7CMake%3AAlfa+Romeo&epid=1414800404&hash=item2eeda418fe:g:blcAAOSwAvJXAuiQ

But to be honest, I haven't driven the car since it was installed, so i have no experience with them regarding softness.

Hi Christian, Keep up with the good work :thumb:

What color will it be painted?

"I am particularly proud of the original Q4 bumpers that I bought years ago."
Hmm, I don't think that Q4's front bumper is different than others.

alfacorse155
16-02-21, 17:39
Hi Kunev!

Thanks for your reply.
My Q4 will be painted in the original color code 601 (Nero M. S.).

As far as i know, the difference between the bumpers for the small series Q4 and a common 155er are the additional air inlets under the license plate bracket.
Furthermore, according to the original brochure in Austria, all Q4s small series had headlight washers.

Best wishes to Bulgaria!

Hi Christian,

I have seen such inlets on front bumper, but for me it is hard to imagine that they are original. They are behind number plate, i.e. not visible and no flow to them, also behind them there should be buffers and after them is front cross beam. The only logical explanation for them to be original, which I can think of is to be for homologation purpose and if that can be the case then logically only 1st series should have them as for intercooler water spray system and should be all of them. But I haven't read about such thing and this make me doubt.

Best wishes to Austria also!

alfacorse155

Hi Todor!

You might be right, because my Q4 is a 1st series car and has also the intercooler water spray system.
I have found a picture from a Lancia Delta HF 4WD and the inlets there look very similar and these are also behind the number plate.

By the way we have spent some more time preparing the last parts for the pain job.

Where did you plan the front number plate to be placed? These are "sport pack" wheels 16", right. Will they be used on the car? They are already painted or to be painted in other color?

alfacorse155
31-03-21, 20:04
Hi Kunev!

Thats a good question regarding the number plate position, but to be honest i think i will mount it over the air vents as original but with some kind of quick coupler.

At the moment i am not sure which wheels i will mount, just at the weekend i tried my favourit Compomotive TH2 8Jx17 inch with ET35, but at the front axle the are above one centimeter of the fender edge and thats not street legal in Austria.

https://abload.de/img/20210327_07484840k7m.jpg https://abload.de/img/20210327_0809085jjmg.jpg

https://abload.de/img/20210327_074819wfjfj.jpg

So finally I am desperately looking for Compomotive TH2 wheels in 7,5j x17 inch ET35, but thats very difficult. Or I just use the speedline wheels 16" as they are for beginning!

Is the red 155 outside on the picture also Q4?

The model of these wheels is MontecarloCorse 17" right, in 7×17″ I guess. From what I see EVOCorse made only motorsport and vintage wheels and are partner with Fondmetal and Arcasting. I confuse the brand a little with Speedline Corse, which are part of Ronal Group now from what I see.

Good luck with solving ABS issue! I also have a problem with it and the lamp is lit.

alfacorse155

Hello Kunev!

Yes the red Alfa 155 in the back is also a Q4, this was the beginning of the virus, bought with big dreams in Germany.
Transported to Austria and just recognized that it has a connecting rod bearing damage.
Started to repair the motor and discovered that it was an accident car (front and left rear).

So the car was written off for me, but some weeks later I bought the black Q4 in Austria in a very used condition....that wasn't rational...
But finally after years off restauration, I am really happy to own one and that I never gave up on the dream!!!

Yes completly right, Montecarlo Corse in 7x17".....fit really creat to the Alfa, I also drive the same design with Compomotive rims on my Lancia Delta Integrale Evo1.

The ABS System is really difficult, also it looks like i have one of the first versions (1th series with water spray from 1992) without a diagnostic output for the examiner...

If satisfaction from black car is enough this may be inspiration for red car in the future and corresponding thread here ;)

So you have also an integrale Evo I, good for you  Will be interesting for me to give us your opinion for comparison between them :)

Yes, ABS system is different and more complex, that on front wheel drive cars. It is Bosch 2S and its control unit is located below rear seats, according to manual (I suppose you have it). For which control unit you mean, that doesn't have diagnostic output - ECU or ABS control unit or both?

AlfaJack

Looks great with those wheels. Very well suited!

alfacorse155
09-10-22, 11:06
Hello Kunev!

I think that another restoration will not be enough, I'm glad if I can keep my vehicles running.

So visually the Alfa is rather inconspicuous, the Delta certainly has the greater recognition value.
In terms of driving, the Delta seems light-footed to me, but I've always had a lot of fun with the Alfa - but it's almost impossible to master in winter.

Unfortunately, I don't have a diagnostic connector for the ABS system, the diagnostic connector for the engine control unit is in the passenger footwell.
