Hi,

I'm looking to get some and they are the part numbers I have.

It is strange that for Koni they are the same as the V6 but in Bilstein they are the same as for the Twin Spark

V6, Q4 & 2.5TD use the same suspension parts :thumb:

Hi Maxi, I just received the rear shocks from Koni. The number is indeed 8240-1138SPORT

I think there has always been a question over what dampers are common between the Q4 and other models in the 155 range. There are probably small differences between them, but nothing major.

I agree it is still the 155 suspension.

The Sport shock at the back may help to curb the body roll and with a stiffer spring you need more damping.

The Sport shock at the back may help to curb the body roll and with a stiffer spring you need more damping.

Indeed, one of the complaints that road testers had with the Q4 was that it was overdamped and undersprung at the rear. Putting even firmer dampers on the rear with old saggy springs is only going to make this worse.

And getting hold of stiffer springs for the Q4 off the shelf is somewhat of a problem now that Eibach have no interest in providing them.

My solution is 916 GTV rear coils, which is uncomfortably firm but keep the car flat. Preferably series 2 or 3 GTV's, they are variable rate coils. Problem is the soft standard shocks do not last long with the hard coils, enter Koni Sport. I had a set of Eibachs on and it is not the solution, I now use Eibachs in front, which give a nose down stance that help with the understeer.

My take on this is: Like a front wheel drive the rear axle must keep the car flat, if a rear wheel lift, the Torsen LS diff will/should sort it out and the wheel on the tar should keep the drive. The front wheels have a normal diff and loose all traction if one wheel lift, so they must remain on the tar. But if the car stays flat, the front should not loose traction.

I never used Bilsteins on the 155 so could not have an opinion. I used Bilsteins on Alfetta and Uno Turbo, both with hard aftermarket coils, with very good result. The gas in shocks are there to put pressure on the fluid to stop it from boiling with hard use.

But Bilstein put 25 bar in the shocks and Koni only 4 bar, which is good enough for the purpose. The high pressure in the Bilsteins have an added effect, it lift most cars 15 to 20 mm above the ride height of the spring. On normal smooth surfaces, the car move on this soft cushion before the spring harden substancially and give a much better ride.

The Bilsteins are not adjustable and Koni Sport are, so I tend to use Konis aft and Bilsteins front, because I can adjust the back shock softer for normal use and hard for the occational trackday my Alfa club arrange.

Overall MY opinion is the Bilsteins are better shocks but is more expensive. Added to this, there is a suspension expert in my neck of the woods that sorted many, many race cars with the own valving and adjustments on Bilsteins. So I may be prejudged.
