Are any of you lot a biker?

Round at a clients today and they are having a big clearout of the garage. So along side a water pump and a Karcher with an electrical problem, I've somehow acquired a Honda MTX 125r for the princely sum of nought!!

Only problem is the motor is in pieces as some muppet ran it on straight petrol not 2-stroke mix.

So anyone got experience of this type of bike?

And yes I know I'm too old for this sort of thing, but the plan is to fix it up and flog it on to fund bits for other projects.

Used to work on such things many years ago .................but alas all has faded from my memory now

i had lots of 2 stroke bikes (..long ago ...) theyre relatively easy to repair esp if its air cooled, but if its been run without oil might be simplest/cheapest to replace engine ?

Well I picked the bike up this evening. Turns out its an Mtx 50 not a 125.

Apart from the shagged motor the rest looks in pretty good nick. Its been sat in a garage since 1998, so is out in the rain now having all the dust washed off.

The motor doesn't look too bad to be honest. The rings were seized in the piston grooves but apart from that nothing major jumps out.

Just trying to source a manual now so I can put it all back together.

top end rebuilds are dead simple on two strokes, its impossible to do it wrong really.

and woohoo 50 cc`s youll be doing 35 mph flat out in no time lol.

Ahh thats where I was mistaken, and you are wrong. After getting hold of a haynes manual for the MTX-50 and checking some measurements it seems that I have an MTX-50 with a big bore piston and barrel.

And this gives me, wait for it, 60 whole cc :rofl:

It looks like its going to cost me £20 for a new piston, rings, small end and another £20 for a gasket set.

I've got no intention of using this thing on the road as I'll look a massive tit riding around on a hairdryer, but it might get a bit of a blat across some fields before I bung it up on ebay or the like.

woohoo 60 ! thats a real big bore !! lol but youre right off road it probably will be good fun...

Probably for the best really. I've not ridden a bike for about 20 years, so anything bigger and I'm likely to hurt/kill myself.

60cc should be more than enough to propel my svelte frame.

i know what youre saying, same here biking days long ago, my pal has an old gpz 900 am really desperate for a go on it... but i know it will end very very badly if i do !

Bikes are another passion of mine, and did lots of tuning two strokes with a mate of mine a long time ago. Best thing to do with a small off roader is junk all the crap you don't need like indicators etc to get rid of the weight and they can be quite nippy round a grass track or mx track, but I wouldn't try any steep hills mate, you'll end up stranded half way up :lol::lol:
