View Full Version : Plenum small bore hose connections.

Started tearing things down this afternoon to swap the inlet manifold over to the kappa version. Really just making room around the engine before getting properly stuck in.
One thing struck me though, are the small bore connections specific or can you connect any small bore hose to any connector?
And if they are specific, does anyone have a diagram of corresponding Q4 and kappa connections?

I'll hopefully be swapping the water pump, removing the balance shaft belt and aircon pump as well during the coming weeks.

All the small bore has the same pressure and vacuum so doesn't matters

Just try to use the shorter hoses. That means connect each bore with the nearest sensor

Does that include the hose going off to the MAP sensor, as this one seems to be located away from the other hose connectors.

The one that is nearest to map it is better to go to the map. I relocate the fuel pressure regulator to the other side that there are two bores and the other to the blow off valve. This is the longer hose too

On the standard manifold, the map sensor is connected away from the individual runners, I just wondered if this was so that it got a more consistent reading. If you take the reading right next to a runner surely it is going to fluctuate as the inlet valves open and close.

why the change to the kappa manifold? is it better in some way?

Yep its a better design, the plenum itself might be just a little on the small side, but the runners are basically straight. Much better than the 'U' shape of the Q4 runners.

Here is a pic of them side by side:

ah i see now you put them side by side!
( i had to google kappa cos i dont think i have ever actually seen one )

looks like a better angle for the throttle body too, to get a straight run to the intercooler providing you have moved the battery of course ...
