Hi guys
i am gonna buy new oil pump for Q4 but not original oem. It will be schadek brand.
Are there any schadek brands that use this oil pump?
What is your idea about this brand?

I've not heard of them myself, but after a quick search they do seem to be quite popular in the VW scene, especially the drag racing guys. You've got to be confident about anything you put into a drag racing engine.

How does the price compare with the oem one? And do you have a link to their Q4 pump, I couldn't see it on their website.

If I would need to order a new oil pump, I would go to Bielstein (http://www.bielstein.com) to order one.

They where working on a replacement pump when I was there about a year ago. Seconde choice would be ordering at Walkers.

i have told with walkers garage about modified oil pump but it was very expensive..it was about 500 gbp...

i had an article what to do on standard oil pump so u get better oil flow. but this mod is only working if old oil pump is in good shape. ill try to find it and post it here.If my memory is working well it was talking about grinding away some material from inside of pump...

any news about the article?

I read something similar from Jim Kartalamakis's book about alfa V6 engines. Basically You have to have the pump gears within tolerance and smoothing the cast holes and the whole insides of the pump with a dremel or similar tool. And if I remember right there was also some talk of taking some small amount of material from the pump body so that the pump back plate is a bit tighter. Thus making the pump more efficient and able to produce better pressure.

Finn : its something like you described. I was trying to find the article but with no success. Ill try finding it again. I know for shure that the Wolf66 user from this forum has made this mod on his Q4.

It would be good to see a diagram of the inside of the oil pump with the areas of metal to be removed marked out.

Anyone got a pic of the inside of an oil pump?

Ill make some photos in couple of days when i get back to my garage. i allready have engine stripped. Ill try to get in tuch with wolf and ask him about this mod and ill report back.

I have fitted Schadek oil pump to my Q4, the one also used in Tipo 2000 16v. Direct fit without problems and works very well.

hi guys
today we analyzed schadek oil pump (fiat tipo-tempra 2.0 8V) and Q4 original pump.
Schadek and original, and the hole of the same diameter all the oil channels. i guess only the pressure spring tansion different. have u got and idea?
u can see pictures below
clean pump is schadek , dirty is original pump
schadek (on the bottom) and originial

My guess would be that the pumps outlet must not have casting flaws(roughness) Sorry I am away from home and can not get to Kartalimakis' book.

The pressure can be raised by fitting a thin washer under the spring of the relieve valve. By personally I don't think higher pressure is much help. The viscosity of the oil is what keep bearing surfaces apart, not pressure.

You need higher volume flow, because a lot of oil is lost to the turbo. The turbo does not have a small tolerance bearing. It is really a floating bush with loose clearances that flow freely and lose oil volume and pressure fast. That is why the modification to remove the balance shafts are so good. The amount of oil lost through the b/shaft bearings are now available for the rest of the engine. We do the same with the Alfa TS when we turbo it and even restrict the flow to the cylinder head. But some guys have trouble with worn cams, so this may not be the best idea.

I would not modify the gears of a new oil pump, but a second hand one I would look at. A gear pump normally wear very little on the teeth of the gears. you can measure the distance between the teeth and the outer casing, but that is normally not a wear surface(unless if you run very dirty oil) But the flat surfaces on the side of the gears wear into the pump body and back plate. If this tolerance become to big oil flow is lost. To measure this cut small pieces of shim stock(2/1000" or 5/100 mm) place it next to the gear and reassemble the pump. It should turn with resistance. If you can place two pieces of shim on top of each other and the pump still turn, it is worn.

It can be fixed by carefully sanding the pump casing's surface(where back plate fits) on a machined plate(maybe a piece of quality glass) Reassemble often with the single shim until a little resistance can be felt. The bad part is the side that often is bad, is the side against the pump casting(inside) and not the side against the back plate. This surface can't be improved on and if it is badly scored the pump is a lost case.

Nick
can you measure the height of the outer gear
because there is a difference in oil pumps
some are 10mm, Q4 and turbo is 12mm
it's make more flow

hi guys
today we have remove gears and measured..
Tipo 8V oil pump (schadek brand) and old original pump is the same..there is no difference between. Out Gear is 11,3 mm on new and old.
i am gonna use it
