Hi,

I thought the idea with the main bearings was that they never actually touched anything, in a working engine there should be a film of oil between the bearings and the crank. Given that the mainbearings are supported by the con-rods, I'm not sure why having strengthened mains is an advantage, if you get contact between the crank and bearings they are going to be well on their way to being scrap. Surely having good quality, correctly designed mains is more important than their strength.

Thats just my take on the situation, and of course I could be completely wrong.

In a perfect world that would be the case but depending on the oil quality, the film of oil can "shear" which will reduce the film strength and it is common for the bearings to touch the journal. Then, also dependng on the quality of the oil, or the anti-wear additives in the oil you will get some wear. This usualy happens only under extreme operation. Excessive rpm etc. It's common to use "race bearings" in these situations. Our engines have a "race" bearing from the factory.

They are listing the rod bearings as suitable for 8v and 16v, as far as I know the tangs are different on the two engines so not possible to use them on both engines, hmmmm.

Nothing better than the stock, and stock are not available now. The best are glyco and mahle. Look mine after 340.000 km

These are the new one. Crankshaft's bearings, rod's bearings and thraust. All 3-metal bearings like stock ones.

Awww....something off-topic. I have 3 turbos now in my profile. Steve can I take the one for my car? I prefer a gt35r. Hahaha

In theory that's correct,
what about sputter bearings that you can buy as reinforced option (not for q4 and integrale unfortunelty)
