View Full Version : Coolant question
How can I change all the coolant from my car? I know we can drill the water by pulling the lower radiator hose but with this option we can't change the coolant liquid inside the engine block.
I need to do this because my mechanic didn''t put distilled water... He put city water and 2 liters antifreeze...
You NEED that, the mechanic HAVE TO do it. He might want to try getting out 9,1 liter of coolant mixture out of your engine...
What about the new anifreeze and distilled water? I don't like such practices that's why I prefer doing some by myself...
Tricky one. Is it really a big issue? I have always put normal tap water in with anti-freeze (currently just normal water is in there whilst I correct leaks).

For some reason I've been buying ready mixed antifreeze recently. Saves all the hastle. Especially round here, the water is so hard you can almost see the calcium in it.
I there a reason why you need distilled water in Turkey, is tap water a problem as Steve said?
If there's no problem with the water it'll be fine.

Yes wrinx, the tap water is so calcic and it can get calcificate the whole system. My engine is freshly rebuilt and I want to protect the cooling systems components from calcium. I can use the ready anti-freeze mixtures or distilled water and anti-freeze.
This always been an issue for the cars in Turkey but usually noone pays attention and this causes engine problems caused by cooling system in time.
Steve Webb: Which mixture do you use? I have read someone that certainly the FIAT's blue mixture is the best but I would like to learn your choice.
