Thought I'd bring this up as I was asked last week whether the Lampredi 8v engine block is the same as the 16v block.

Its a given that all the 16v blocks are essentially the same, just the bolt on parts that are slightly different, but can you stick a 16v head on an 8v block?

If so, is it a straight swap or does it need modification?

Good question. I have the same quetion about the 2.5 v6 24v versus 2.5 v6 12v (Alfa 156 vs alfa 155), is it posible to change head?...

I really don't know. Do they have same pistons?

the 8v and 16v have the same block. I know two guys that modified 8v engines to 16v.
they have different pistons, but same everything else.

I think that V6 don't have same blocks. they even have many differences the 164 12v with the 75 12v!!!!

All reverse port (same flow direction as 16V) 2.0L 8V blocks will mate up to the 16V head. Some blocks do not have the balance shafts or oil cooling jets.

Older 8V blocks of any capacity (not reverse port) even as far back as a 1966 will still mate to a 16V head but there are some major design differences and none have balance shafts
