Just curious, it struck me today that I've had Alfa's for the past 15 years or so, but I've never driven the famous V6. Driven all sorts of other cars with different numbers of cylinders, yet never a V6.

So what types of engines have you owned / driven.

3 cylinder
Not driven as such, but worked on one, horrible little rattly Corsa engine :?

4 cylinder
Mini 1275 - not too bothered.
Ford 2.0 and 1.6 - first cars.
Ford CVH...yuergh!
Opel Manta 1.8 - a nice Vauxhall unit.
Vauxhall 1.3...nice revvy little Vauxhall unit.
Mazda 1.6...nice but dull.
Nissan 1.8 turbo...fast but crap!
Alfa 1.8 16v..amazing little engine, got me hooked!
Alfa 2.0 16v....another nice engine.
Alfa 16v JTDm...amazingly powerful diesel.
Alfa 1950s Twincam...an old but classic engine.
Alfa/Fiat/Lancia 2.0 twincam turbo...another classic!

5 cylinder
Alfa JTD 10v...200bhp of sonorous diesel grunt!
Alfa JTD 20v...another 200bhp of grunt but with annoying green nonsense bolted on.

6 cylinder
Alfa 12v in 163bhp and 210bhp versions (FWD & RWD)

8 cylinder
Driven a couple of Ferrari's at one of those "drive it" days, but no idea which ones

Never driven a 12 cylinder car...

Details would be good,

2 cylinder
Fiat 500 with a tuned 126 engine, surprisingly quick
Citroen Acadiane van, sea-sickness on wheels.

Flat 4
Alfa 33 P4, gokart on wheels

Straight 4
Talbot Alpine 1.6, adjust tappets, run till it sounds like a bag of spanners, repeat.
Peugeot 205 XS 1.4 Cracking fun with a K&N
Alfa 155 2.0 ts 8v Loved that car, except when it blew its inlet runners off
Alfa 155 Q4. Say no more
Alfa 156 1.6 Sportwagon - Yawn
Alfa 156 2.0 Selespeed - Good fun, but not with that gearbox.
Fiat 124 Spider - Top down motoring whatever the weather.
Fiat 500 Dualogic- Economical but gutless, gearbox miles better than the selespeed.
Land Rover Discovery 300 tdi - Chug chug chug.

Straight 6
BMW 323i se. Old mans car, made a nice sound though.

V8
Range Rover 3.9 Vogue SE. Loved this one as well, didn't love the fuel bill. Press the throttle watch the fuel gauge drop.

Thats all the memorable ones.

Cars that I have done at least 50 miles in:

3 Cylinder:
Smart Car (one of the early LHD ones, dreadful!)

4 Cylinder:
Alfa 2.0 16v 155 (good in the right rev range, sounded nice too
155 Q4
1.4 Mk3 Golf (heavy car, pretty slow. Made worse by my 17" "cool at the time" wheels
0.954cc Pug 106 (1st car, more than enough )
Ford Focus ST 170 - slightly quicker than a 155 TS...nicer delivery though
156 SW 1.6 (No complaints, it is what it is)
Mazda MX5 1.6 8v (Really nice, in a light car it does well all round on A & B roads but struggles to overtake quickly on motorways (this is where the Q4 is great)

6 Cylinder:
166 3.0 24v (Great, torquey and lovely noise as you would expect)
164 3.0 24v (Even better, much harsher deliver, probably a vastly different mapping)

In-line 4 cyl
Passat 2.0 16v Aut - my first car at 18
BMW 520d Touring - big family car but heavy and too lasy, sold after half a year
Alfa 147 1.6 TS 120hp - my first Alfa, nice one but than sold it to get my Q4...
Passat 1,9 TDI - my actual daily drive, also veeery economic = 6,5l/100km city
Lancia Delta Integrale EVO II - drove that couple of times many years ago and I admit I got frightened pretty good at that time so...it became a dream of mine and it is also the reason I have now the Alfa 155Q4.

In-line 6 cyl
BMW 525 ix Touring - needed a "family car" as our 2nd baby came. Lovely engine and exhaust sound, great power output (192hp) after 3k rpm. Simply loved that car and I still miss it.

V8
BMW 735i - a friend of mine owned that so I used to drive it too...big, elegant, powerful and...thirsty!!!
