After drooling over your lift, I finally got around to buying one...!

Mines a four poster...decided on this because it'll mainly be used to allow for "one up one down" car storage and I don't trust a two potser to do this job.

Four posters are slightly compromised when working on a car, but I've just won a 1.6t jacking beam on fleabay for a reasonable price :)

Looks nice Wrinx, just wish I had more headroom in the garage to fit one in.

Hey and if you extended the pit you've got there, you could get a tripple decked garage.

Very Cool, Wrinx - looks like you bought it in "kit form" :)

How much headroom do you have in your shed there? I like the four post ones too - but with the two post ones you can install a Q4 engine from below.

I am paranoid about the two post hoists safety though - I used 300mm long 1" dia bolts in 500mm deep concrete - so I KNEW that the thing wouldn't let the Q4 fall on my head!

Congrats.. post assembly pics too...

Hope they were at least 8.8 bolts there Jim, they seem a bit small.

Semi-assembled  Just got to put the rest together an then try to level it on my wonky floor :?

Headroom is 3.2m but I have some I-beams in the way and may need to move one of them to allow near full height lift...will see exactly what's going on when I power up the lift (need to get an inverter for the 3-phase).

I don't blame you, I read a few comments on the wonderweb about lifts falling over which put me right off! I would have done the same as you to ensure safety and confidence...2-posters don't really suit my needs, I just want to be able to drive one and lift the car to store it, not mess about placing the lifts arms etc. You don't seem to be suffering from a lack of storage space

Congrats.. post assembly pics too...

I'll try :)

Finally...finally got it working. It's been assembled for about six weeks now but installing it was a major pain because my floor is far from level (65mm difference across one diagonal!). I ended up having to dig three posts into the floor and raise the fourth up :?

Then spent the last two weeks chasing the company who sold me the digital phase inverter for advice about wiring the original three phase switch box to the inverter...but tonight it's done and working 100%!

I'm a happy man...

Thats one of the benefits of living in France, we get full 3 phase delivered straight to the house!

But on a different note, damn you and your full height garage!!

Now that's good...should be lots of good quality machinery available.

Congratulations.. lets see a car on it!!

Spent this evening continuing with the full rewire of the garage, along with the installation of a 20a line, in preparation for a more powerful welder at some point...so didn't manage to get a car on it as planned.

Will take some pics when it happens :)

Its good when it comes to looking for kit, not so good when trying to undo cockups by local sparkies who connect lights up to 2 phases instead of a phase and neutral.
Its amazing how much light a 60w bulb will give off shortly before it goes pop.

Apparently I'm a very sad man for videoing that

That looks great Wrinx, I assume you tested it empty first and there is a positive mechanical lock on there for when you park a car underneath?

wrinx
22-04-12, 21:32
Yes on both counts

In fact, there's a mechanical lock on a ladder frame and what appears to be a friction lock on the ladder frame, in case the rope breaks whilst it's moving.

Non much space above the Q4 there Wrinx.

Its back from the bodyshop then, is that with or without the widebody wings?

wrinx
20-05-12, 00:17
Yes, back form the bodyshop with widebody rear quarters...I still have to sort the rest but it should hopefully be road legal in a week, ready for our UK centenary event.

Might not look like it, but the height is just right for working on cars...but I plan to cut away the two horizontal beams to allow the last 6" of height so I don't have to be careful when lifting them up.

Well pleased :)

Wrinx, It looks great - thought maybe it would have been simpler just to purchase a new house! Its great if you can organize things so that the car cannot be pressed inadvertently into the ceiling beams..Then you don't have to be as careful when you lift cars up!

wrinx
20-05-12, 10:50
Yes, at the moment lifting the car to the maximum available height is a nail biting exercise
