Last night whilst dunking a part in the electrolysis bath I thought I better strip down the engine a little further to check things over. Its a part refurbed engine so its always wise to check the previous persons work.

Good job I did to as it looks like the last person to mount up the turbo was less than diligent.

First off the turbo wasn't bolted onto the lower support, which I guess is the reason for this:

Looking closer you will see that the manifold was only held in place by nuts on 4 studs, 3 of which were not all that tight, and one which was seized onto the stud. 30mins with an impact driver ,an 18" breaker bar and plenty of degrippant and its finally out.

So next on the list of things to sort out is a cracked cast manifold. Time to see if anyone round here can weld cast iron. One crack is much worse than the other and I guess has been caught just in time.

The turbo itself doesn't seem to be in too bad condition, the wastegate isn't seated properly, so will need adjusting before it goes back on the car.

So leaking wastegate, and leaking manifold probably meant the car felt very sluggish.

Oh well, just one more thing to sort out.
