View Full Version : Let's talk pulleys, advice needed
While taking my old engine apart, it’s becoming quite clear that the problems are most likely caused by something that came in the belt area. I found marks on the balancer shaft pulleys and the timing belt pulley. So it looks like I am in the market for new pulleys for the new engine to be build.
I could buy and use the pulleys which are made by Fiat/Lancia/Alfa, the OEM ones or I could look for some lightweight custom pulleys. I know the vernier pulleys for the cam shafts (which are on the to buy list), but what about the other pulleys? Does someone have experience on this subject or maybe know a shop that sells these pulleys?
Take a look here http://scara73.it/motore/motor1.html
Thanks
Had this link in mind, but couldn't come up with the name anymore :O
It has a lot of things there, I wish I could buy all of them hahaha
Shall write an email to them, haven't got a clue about the price.
Though I am curious about the strenght of these pulleys.
If you do buy pulleys don't fit the one on the end of the crank, the oe one is better.
Ask what finish they have also, anything less than hard anodising will lead to rapid wear.
For pretty I'd consider having the steel ones drilled, polished and cromed. Somewhere with a tumble type polisher would soon have them like a mirror. If drilling pulleys though be sure the holes are radiused nicely, you don't want sharp edges. I notice the scara stuff is a bit too crisp on the edges, for my liking anyway.
The pulleys are not just for the looks ;)
Due to the damage on the pulleys from the original engine, this could be an opportunity to replace the OEM ones for something that?s more competitive or is just a better upgrade.
Machining the OEM pulleys isn?t something I thought about. This would be something for the machining company to do for me. It needs to be balanced anyway.
Does anyone knows other things in this page that isn't so in good quality? Because I am interested in some things like 2200cc kit flywheel and bidisc clutch
Good question! They have some parts that have my interest :)
The exhaust manifold for example (with the external wastegate).
Have send an email yesterday evening regarinding the pulley kit they offer.
Do you have any answer about the price of the pulleys?
No, I wish. I guess not everybody uses the internet the way we do ;)
The guy there (Enrico) is always responds in emails quickly. Be sure he will answer to you

Got a reply today, not from Enrico, from a guy who's going to (re)sell parts from Scara73 in the Netherlands as an sales representative (or a dealer?).
It's a pitty I didn't got an anwser to my questions asked.
The lack of answers tells it's own story.
I'll stick to the OEM ones and lighten those who can miss some of the material. With maybe a polish for the looks ;)
I'll put the pulleys I need on the shopping list.
I guess the vernier pulleys will be the only "fancy" pulleys on the engine :thumb:
