Hi guys
i have bought alfa romeo 166 calipers 4 pods by brembo
and i am gonna change front calipers
Is any of this change creates a problem?
or what could be the possible problems?
I use my car on normal roads, not tracks

You will need brackets made up to mount them. Did you get the bolts with the calipers too?

Which wheels do you have...you need 17" or 16" big enough to fit over the calipers.

They may still need spacers to go over the calipers, mine do.

Here is the bracket needed, but please check the hole sizes because I think the 10.5mm should be different (and I guess you can use 12.5 or 13mm for the other two):

You should be able to give the drawing to an engineering company without too many problems.

nick

yes you are right jack
i have dimensions brackets and technical drawing..but in this problem in here the engineering companies does not work for only 2 brackets..they prefers serial production

That pretty much sums up all the problems of getting tuning\aftermarket parts for the Q4, there were never enough for any of the normal tuners to get interested in producing parts for them.

Nick - the bracket does not have to look that fancy to work. All you need is a piece of flat plate the correct thickness and the correct spacing of the holes. Use a piece of cardboard to see what shape you can use. The fact is an ugly but perfectly useful bracket can be made with an angle-grinder in about half an hour. You do not need any of those fancy curves. You cannot see the bracket once it is on the car. Use flat washers to get the correct spacing of the disk rotor in the caliper center..After you have a working bracket you can grind some curves if you like!

Dont you know someone who works for an amateur rally team as an engineer/mechanic/something ? They are usually have usefull friends who can make various custom stuffs like a brake caliper bracket. Maybe not the cheapest solution but they can make only 2 and not 40 for you

Or if there is a tuner company which makes interesting stuffs like Tarox (if I want to be on topic) they want a fortune for their parts. The Big Brake Kit cost 1600? or more, albeit it is a really nice kit with 6 or 10 pot calipers, brackets, brake lines, pads and 2 piece discs. :love-001:

Would it be worthwhile taking those bracket drawings and putting them up in the tech section of the website so they are a little more visible?

in Slovenia i take all drawing to scholl of engineering and the profesor cuts them on cnc machine.... U dont have this option???

Yes, some Tech Colleges might do this, also some engineering firms allow their blokes to do jobs in their lunch time...or via the back door ;)

nop steve
166 caliper more than 4 holes, but measures are same (166 a little bit big, 310mm to 305mm)

you can check this brake measure from

Should the Fiat Coupe brake calipers be easier to mount on a Q4 than the 166 ones? Any advantages? Thanks.

That's not strictly true Steve, it's the owners that won't get together and agree on one product to have made in multiples, or won't pay the money which a small batch requires to make it work.
There are plenty of people out there who do low volume or one-offs.
I recently made a small batch of uprated integrale rear ARBs because someone asked me to and paid for it - first time out with it fitted he took four wins.

If you've got the money it's all there for the taking.

If you know of a tame ARB manufacturer in Europe I certainly would like to know about them, I've approached a number now and as soon as they see the ARBs used on the Q4 they quote huge prices or just go very quiet.

Getting people interested is not the problem, the issue is shipping, if we get anything made specifically for us, firstly it needs to get shipped from the manufacturer then onwards to the buyers, which in our case is worldwide. And when you are talking about anything sizable this adds a huge amount to the final price.

But like you say, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.

I'm guessing the Q4 bar is a bit of a twisted design like the Coupe, is there a thread or some pics I can look at? If it's a pig to make i'm afraid it will be expensive.

You're right about the shipping, when the box reaches these kinds of sizes they take volume into consideration and the rates escalate alarmingly....

No technical reason to look elsewhere, but it was just for the convenience of getting it from somewhere in the EU, and avoiding all the Tax implications and cost of getting the bars shipped all the way from Oz then forwarded on to various parts of Europe.

Hello

Is this brackets for alfa 166 calipers and 305mm discs from fiat coupe 20VT
Do you have for alfa 166 calipers and 310mm discs from alfa 166?

I believe that is all you may need. An ARB lifts the inside wheel when there are a down force on the outside wheel. Now the Q4 have a limited slip diff at the rear, or so I am told. (I have not tested the Torsen diff, in the Q4 at the rear, for limited slip. The Torsen, Q2s that the guys are fitting to the GTA/GTVs are not)

If it is a LS diff the handling will be ok when the inside rear wheel lift in a corner. The front diff is not LS so all torque to the front axle will go to waste, when the inside front wheel lifts.

So in my humble opinion I will increase spring rates all round, but fit a stiffer ARB only at the back of the car, increasing the chances of lifting the rear wheel. Stiffer sport shocks will achieve much the same effect, without the down side, because shocks are 3 times stiffer at extending(rebound) than compression.

wrinx I know this is another thread resurection, but for a number of reasons I'm looking at getting some of these caliper brackets made.

First off, I think that hole size is 10.5mm because the hole should be threaded for an m12x1.25 bolt, and the hole size for tapping a thread this size is 10.8mm

In regards to the other drawings linked to immediately after yours, I think that these are also incorrect. The holes used for mounting to the upright appear to be in the wrong position.

I'm putting together a 3d model for these brackets, and will post it up once I've finished.

They may still need spacers to go over the calipers, mine do.

Here is the bracket needed, but please check the hole sizes because I think the 10.5mm should be different (and I guess you can use 12.5 or 13mm for the other two):

So this is my interpretation of the 166 Brembo coversion brackets.

Probably going to get one made up to see how well it fits.
