I am in start position to install a bigger intercooler on the orginale place, its 4cm wider and 4cm higher i think, its custom buildt for ? price of approx 280euro. I can give some feedback when its tested but it will take 2-4weeks before I am finnish :icon_wink:

Looks like it has possibilities, can you get it with the inlet and outlet on opposite sides?
hi steve
you can see details :

I dont realy know. Its slitly bigger.
seems like good enough for slight modifications for street use.
have you installed it onto your car?
do you have plans like water spray to it?
i have a 75 Turbo America and old owner has modified her air-to-air intercooler to a water-to-air intercooler and this setup is giving very nice values. it has a water radiator in front of the a/c condenser and an electric water pump to the intercooler. by the way, the 75 turbo's intake manifold is the intercooler so such these modifications are easily deployed to them. maybe a modification like this can be done to our q4's.
i think a water radiator can be installed to the stock intercooler's place and we can cool the metal intake pipe so the way of the air pumped from the charger is much shorter and can eliminate the turbo lag.
just an idea...
Here is mine:

and with the silverstone splitter fitted:

Was forced to cut a bit in the frontspoiler though, and it is bolted up into the "front crash-support" don?t know the right word in En?glish sorry

Great modifications and yet still the great looks of the 155. Well done!

I thought I'd bump this thread up again seeing as intercoolers are being discussed again. Can't remember who was having the new slightly larger intercoolers made up, but how did you get on with them? Did they fit OK and did you see much difference with them?
I dont realy know. Its slitly bigger.
Hi, can i ask where you get that IC? I was looking everywhere for some like you have but didnt find anything. I am looking for some slightly bigger, but still capable to fit in into original position. Any advices welcome.

I can't remember who it was, but it was specially made for them by a local company. Maybe ask integrale and see if he can remember.

Hi every body! my first post here.. looking for bigger Ic too, my question is longer pipes= more lag?? or because more density of air(lower air temp) compense the long distance Ic tubbing?

why doesnt anyone try water to air intercooler?

Cloverleaf, I fitted large intercoolers on Uno turbos and 145 Alfas. I did not notice a lag problem on any of them but I used turbos that can deliver the boost up to the redline.
That said, it is possible to struggle if you work from no boost, but that is only possible at take-off in 1st gear. In gear, at freeway speeds, there will be no boost due to the part throttle you use, but if you floor the accelerator the boost will be there instantly.
In high power cars it is an advantage to have volume stored in the tube from the intercooler(63/75mm) and the plenum(100/125mm) to keep pressure constant through acceleration.
Water to air coolers, known locally as charge-coolers, are very effective if set up correctly. They are more expensive, take more space and is heavy. The cooler should hold at least 5 ltrs of water and you will need a radiator the size of the std intercooler with an electric pump to circulate the water. See charge cooler at right in the 1st picture and large intercooler in 2nd.
