As I've changed the gearbox oil a few times lately...I can see that there is always a bit of the friction material of the syncro in the oil that I remove from the gearbox...so.
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get some syncros, where from, & how much to pay etc.
Has anyone done this themselves? How difficult a task is it?
jim.

Hi Jim,
just wondered how you were getting on with your gearbox? Are you having any problems with gear selection due to the syncros?
I guess the replacement of the syncros would mean a complete strip down of the box, getting all the gears off of the shafts.
Being a fairly standard type box it may be something that a gearbox specialist would be able to do. I'm fairly lucky as my Dad is a gearbox whizz, so if I need a box rebuilt I just get it over to him and just pay for the parts. Comes back good as new.

Does he work near London? Might have to consider this one day as when the car is cold it will crunch in to 2nd. 1st can be a pain to get in to sometimes too - wonder if it could be the linkage though.

Fraid not Jack, you'll need to dig out you passport and take a trip up the M1, hes up in the Midlands.
Might just be the linkage though, you know with that short shift kit you've got.

Might get a nose bleed.
Yeah might be - will have to take it off and inspect it:lol-052:

NO, I haven't had any problems, really - and I have gotten used to how to shift in the Q4 without any problems really. When I first started I used to miss a lot of gears - now I have the technique pretty much sorted.
Its normally pretty easy to replace syhcros - though I have never done that on the Q4 gearbox!
Gearchange on mine is quite obstructive at times...but as there's so much play in the gearstick I'm starting there first!
