I need to remove the camshaft {timing} cover in order to replace the gasket.
Do I need to remove the 'stroke {fase} sensor' first, as indicated on the manual {Q4engine - pg 57} or is it possible to remove the cover without touching the sensor?

The cover comes off without touching the sensor :)

I need to replace the one on mine too. Do you have the spare yet? If so, how much was it?

Yeah, just undo the bolts (not forgetting the ones under the plug cover) and off it comes...might be a little stuck due to age!

plug cover is removed for more than 6 months as I was planing to go for the 4 'coil on plug' mod.

It was a lot 'stuck', not due to age but due to 'gasket glue' used by my mechanic to avoid to replace it! And it was leaking all the time {2 years}.
Took me more than an hour to remove the cover and another 2 hours {almost} to clean all that glue!

Thanks Nick. I think I will order one. Tend to get the smell of burnt oil through the vents as oil drips on to the manifold.

I was seeing the smoke coming out from the vent hole I have on the bonnet! I knew what it was but you can imagine the look and the 'concern' from the other drivers next to me in the city traffic. One came close to me, knocking on the driver's window, with a fire extinguisher!!!

I know exaclty what you mean :)
I have the original waterspray system active. Several times somebody on the high way start driving next to me pointing at the front of the car... trying to explain to me I need to stop because the car is leaking water :D
Very funny while driving
