so, what if the turbo dies..

and i want a new one..

what do i buy and where do i find them?

what if i put a T3/4 on the car, and doo nothing else, what will change? will it work? is it possible`? or do i need to do something else?

what if i put a T3/4 on the car, and a schipquadra chip? what will change?

or should i just get a new T3? naaaa...

From what little I know...T3/T4 will give you more power but slower spool so there will be a delay.

From memory Squadra will add about 35bhp with a T3, you'll have to run Super Unleaded but it is definitely worth it if you only plan to upgrade a bit.

If you're thinking of spending lots of money there are better turbos than the T3/T4 imho.

GT28RS for one....

Squadra with T3 will go to 235hp and 345Nm.

But when lucky a bit more. I get 250Hp and 400Nm.

T3/4 isn't a turbo, its about 1000 different possible turbos. They are usually put together for high HP but you can still have a very responsive "smaller" one.

Either way it should be capable of more power than standard so if you want to put one on the car the only other thing you need it a chip to suit the higher power.

Yes, you're right...however the figures I've seen for the most popular T3/T4 hybrids are apparently a bit slow to spool.

But Steve (the Boss!) has one with a custom map and always speaks highly of them.

From what I've read they are perceived as being a bit "old school" these days...but never driven one, so can't comment further.

yes, they are pretty 'oldschool' but there is much to improve using 'modern' tecnology!

The T3/T4 turbo that I am using takes 1.2 seconds to go from throttle closed to 1.55 bar boost, It is a simple bronze bush (non roller bearing) turbo. I do not think that you can get much faster spool up than that! Actually perhaps you can, but I have never seem any data to prove it. The turbonetics turbo in the link above looks much more modern, and better in every way than my Chinese piece of junk, BUT will it actually result in quicker lap times because it has less spool up time - that is the real question for me - love to know the answer but I suspect that the answer would be 'not really'...

from my experience, its "all in the boost controller" I have given up on the combination of the pierburg valve and the data table inside the IAW ECU. I am now using a completely separate external electronic boost controller. In the end, I was just not able to get the OEM system to produce 1.4+ bar consistently at high revs without tailing off. Also the actual translation of the numbers in the table into actual boost values is not predictable enough.

Jim, is this 'graphic' during/after a gear change?
Do you have or could you be so kind to take a 'graphic' while going with low rpm {1500 for example} and press the gas pedal to the flour? I?m very interested in seeing how fast will heat the apex boost in this case.

Nick, I don't have any data that shows boost from 1500 rpm. I never let revs drop below 4000 in normal operation. Boost build will be slower from lower RPM as the air volume is reduced. At Phillip Island the the other day, I was making 1.4+ bar with a big, big hole in one of the intercooler hoses. The graphic shows a gear change (when you close the throttle boost goes negative) Revs start about 4500 and go to 6800.

I can't help but think you could spool a much bigger turbo if you manage that with the split I was looking at. Bring on the man's turbo :biggrin:

:biggrin: I can see them dropping for sure. Those roller bearing turbos spool on a whisper.
