which is the operating valve clearance {cold engine} for an oem engine?
I thought it was 0,35 mm for the intake and 0,40mm for the exhaust, but today I saw that Q4's workshop manual mention 0,36 - 0,44 mm {intake} and 0,46 - 0,54 mm {exhaust}! So probably my 'clearance' is not the one that should be.

Mine are set as per the manual (which is as you quoted above) - I think you should check these out ASAP. Inspect your exhaust cam closely as they are known for wearing out the 2-3 lobes.

As Jack states, I set mine in the middle (or as near as possible) at 0.40 and 0.50 respectively.

thanks guys, I'll check clearance asap, when I'll replace the chain.

You do know that someone in England has a classic Mini with a chain {a proper chain}, don't you?

There must be a way to have a chain in Alfa too. Maybe someday ...
