View Full Version : Biggie's BTCC replica project
Hi,
Due to the problems with my car (seems to be ignition problems) i decided to put the Q4 on the garage and try to realise my project myself slowly.
That's the reason i started this topic, here i will post the upgrades i'm going to put in my car, meanwhile i can have time and money to do it
At the moment the car looks like this, arrived some stuff days ago
Wish me good luck! LOL
Look forward to seeing the updates!

Hi there,
That sounds familiar, I also have a project in my garage ;)
Please post your updates and good luck with your project.
Greetings,
Marc
Good luck, time and money !
Many thanks mates! i'm sure it will take me a lot of time i'll try to be patient, meanwhile it will be very difficult, i haven't drive my Q4 since one month ago and i'm longing for him :(

I know exactly what you mean ;)

Some news!
Changed Map sensor, spark plugs, some small hoses that wasn't in good condition, changed one engine gasket to solve oil leaks, new oil filter and cleaned the K&N air filter.... and my "bella" starts!
I know what I have not done for the moment is not a big deal, but for me that it's the first time it's great!
This week will go to the mechanic for some bodywork (Silverstone front splitter and rear spoiler), and soon will arrive more funny stuff
First pics! i'll try to take some time this weekend to fit the rear spoiler and front grill :tasty:

some people {with Integrale} use to mount a small filter - the small one used on carts for the fuel line - just before the MAP to prevent oil from going into the sensor. Does not cost that much and keep the oil vapours out from the map. The only thing is to keep this line shorter than 45cm - if I'm not mistaking.
Another more step on my progress to my "r?plica BTCC" project :tasty:
Thanks for the advice arjunior45, i'll consider in the future ;)
Wrinx, i have the measurements of the jacking kit, but don't know how to explain it to you, there are a lot of different measurements and geometrical forms :frown:

Those seats look brilliant...can't have been cheap!
Are they difficult to mount? How are you going to do it?
Wow !!! Great seats indeed. It was also my second thought...how much these could cost. Anyway, realy nice choice.

Looove those recaros. I'd like to mount them too.
Do you think it will be possible to have the driver's seat lower than the oem one?
What about the seatbelts? How are you going to mount them? Are they going to be 4-points belts?
Looove those recaros. I'd like to mount them too.
would you really?
seriously I know what you mean and it is some great seats indeed, why do you want it lower mounted than original seats?

You're right mate, they aren't cheap  but i was saving money to buy them a lot of months ago ... I have bought them from "capitalseating.co.uk" it costs me 700 pounds (795 ?) with the shipping costs included to Menorca (Spain), here, in Spain the best price i found was ... 1100 ?!!
At the moment i don't know if it will be difficult to mount, i will try it on the next days, my intention is to put them on the OEM subframes, and if is not possible i'll have to buy some universal aftermarket subframe ;)

Many thanks mate, on my answer to Alfajack you can see how much it costs if you want ;)

with the oem seats I feel that I'm driving a tractor.
Too high and too close to the steering wheel. My legs are spread like ... you know and, changing to 2nd gear is a little difficult

Guys, I have lowered the driving seat on my Q4 right to the floor by removing the entire structure that supports the OEM seats. Its a real pain to do, with lots of cutting required, but then I put in rails that allows the seat to be configured at any reasonable height. My seat is now so low I can't see the edge of the bonnet (which takes tome getting used to ). Probably not so good for a street car!

Well, to be honest I mostly concern for having the seat too close to the stearing wheel and having difficulties with changing from and to 2nd gear. Very annoing when I 'need' to drive fast this car!
Well, another little step... headlight plates fitted :D

Ola,
Cristian.
Thanks for the encouragement mate, I hope to show you more upgrades soon ;)
A little update ;)
recently i've had to left my Q4 at the mechanic to repare a few things... brake servo, brake pump, clutch pump and interior radiator.
due to that the mechanic had to disassemble the center console and the central tunnel, I took the opportunity to relocate the provision of clocks turbo pressure, fuel and mixture (AFR), I borrowed the idea from a pic of a dutch 155 and put them where they are central aerators air conditioning, so I have much more visible than before.
I am delighted with the result, I went to do my part as to put the clocks to an acquaintance who works with methacrylate, later in the tinkerer's workshop was commissioned to give the finish you see in the pictures, is almost exactly the other plastics of the dashboard, so glad.
I leave some photos with the result;)

Also collecting parts to improve the performance of my Q4 remains in place, these last Christmas Santa Claus brought me a small gift from Germany

Looking good there Biggie, but aren't you going to regret losing the air vent in the summer?
I've always thought the vent on the top of the dashboard was pretty useless, if someone made a gauge pod to slot in there I'd be very interested. Provided of course this car ever plays ball and lets me finish some jobs.
Hi Steve,
i don't worried about losing the center console air vents because i never used them, i don't like to feel the cold/hot air directly, i prefer to use the upper air vents ;)

I'm the opposite, need to have air blowing over me or I'm not comfortable. Each to their own I guess.
I would prefer to mount a couple more gauges in the car but fitting them somewhere is tricky. I would go for an A pillar mount, but they look a bit too 'ricer' for me.
The rear wing is a little bit 'ricer' too, everything else is great
The last bits before to take part on an Alfa Romeo track day organized by the club i'm partner (Alfa Corse Club), Momo mod 78 suede leather and EBC bluestuff and redstuff brake pads ;)

Love the suede wheel, I just worry about how they look when they get worn. Not a problem with my car at the moment though.
Love the seats as well, did you get them recovered? And did you have to get the seat runners made up specially for the seats?
Yes Steve, i know the suede leather steering wheel is a lot delicate but i love the look and touch it gives, i bought a pair of OMP gloves too to take care of it :D
About my seats, nothing better than some pics to explain everything, my thought was to get the seat lower without cutting the floor of the car, so i don't mount any seat runner, i just fixed the seat to a piece of iron that i designed to be mounted over the structure that supports the OEM seats ;)

Seat height was one of the problems I had. The original 155 seats are an unusual design as they have a scooped out bottom to allow the bottom of the seat to be below the level of the runners.
I've got a similar solution for my seats, doesn't look quite as good as yours though.
The last bits before to take part on an Alfa Romeo track day organized by the club i'm partner (Alfa Corse Club)....
bad news, mysterious electrical problems made the trip out as a walk through hell ... the car stopped twice departing from Barcelona, luckily I got to a dealer who found that the relay fuel pump failed, after that, the day before the track day for no apparent reason stopped working electric fans while we walked with the other cars in the city of Granada. The temperature of engine coolant reached 120 ? C. ...
With all this I decided not to participate in the track day and return to Barcelona to catch the boat and go home ... after 600 kms the engine broke down, failed, working in two or three cylinders ...
After three weeks when I had to leave the car in the hands of the insurance company, got my car to Menorca and we took the shop where I have my mechanic ... After a few days gave me the bad news ...
The heater caused the head gasket was burned, also I have my head cilinders checked and can not be rectified, apart has been found that the pistons are very worn y. .. to finish the turbo is slack in the turbine shaft
Sorry for not being very active in the forum lately, but I was looking forward to spending a day at the races with my friends in the club and has left me all wrong, now the car will have to wait a few months (or maybe a year) to repair and the damage is very expensive.
I'm very sad now, but for sure someday she will be relive ;)
Ouch bad news - so it is in for a full rebuild then. Good chance to get some nice shiny bits in there.
At least you got to go to Granada though - lovely place...been a couple of times :)

yes, its such a shame after all of the great work that you have put into this car! In the end, the engines are the simplest bits really, and not too expensive if you are using standard parts. I hope you can get it fixed soon!
jim.
This sad news to hear
What are you're plans for the rebuild? Standard parts or something else....?

Bad luck with the car Sergio, fingers crossed you get it all sorted out soon, without too much expense.
thanks a lot mates for your kind words, i don't have still thinking about the way to take to make the engine rebuilt because i haven't now enough money to begin the rebuilt, will see... ;)
