I have the D2 suspension system in my Q4. I have been looking for some stronger rear springs that would work with the Q4 without too much modification. I am happy to report that I have found some! They are King Springs Part # KFFL-53SL. They are actually from the front of a particular Ford sedan that is sold here, but they fit very well. All that is required is to cut the tops to provide the correct ride height. I cut off a single coil to give the same base rear ride height as before.

These springs are 540 lb/in (as compared to the 200ish of the D2 ones). I am using 650lb springs on the front. Removing a complete coil also increase the spring rate. The springs cost $130.00 (AUD) a pair thats about 50p. in UK money.

Is Norway really that strict about mods? I quite liked the place the last time I was up there.

How would they know?

Never really understood this level of strictness toward lowering...unless the car is totally on it's arse of course!

Its the same in NZ and probably Aussie too. The problem is because idiots were chopping off coils to the point springs were falling out. They basically made it illegal to modify coils without an engineers certificate. You can however fit aftermarket springs.

they have started to have huge technical controls up here now, they even test your car on a rolling road to see if you have increased power, and if you do you get fined thousands:o

Wow, that's being serious about stopping modding :(

without an engineers certificate.

An engineers certificate is not that difficult to obtain, is not it?

It is just a signature and 50 Euro here in Greece of coarse - not in NZ.

In NZ you need a basic safety inspection every 6 months that costs about $40. If the suspension is modified beyond the rules you need a LVV cert to the tune of $300-$500. Its a complete detailed inspection of all modifications, it even states ride heights, wheel sizes etc. These things need to be checked during the 6 month inspection. Any changes and it all has to be done again so people that want to modify their cars put it off until its totally necessary. There are ways around some items for motorsport purposes etc.

So pretty much any modification is allowed, which is good but it needs to be approved by an engineer. I use to do this for a job.
