Sorry I could not answer your call mate, was out at dinner.

Sounds like the wastegate might be stuck open. If you remove the pipe to the actuator it might give a bit more but then, if it is stuck it wont make a difference. You need to have a look at the pushrod to the wastegate and see if its moving freely.

just found the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler i think has a pipe off it that runs to the dump valve has split away completely think this might be the prob?

AlfaJack

Almost certainly mate. When I bought my Q4 it came with a new one of those in the boot for me to fit so probably a common place to split.

sub555

are there any t-pieces off the shelf i can get to fit in side the boost pipe ?

AlfaJack
26-05-09, 08:07
There probably is but it depends where it split.
You will need to take the pipe off and have a good look at it then search like mad on demon tweeks for something to fit :(

sub555
26-05-09, 08:12
it has split right where the pipe runs off for the dump valve its actually the pipe for the dump valve that has come off

Maybe a whole new hose then. I have a feeling its about ?40.

think i have found a place where i can get a alloy piece to fit in with a take off for the dump valve

Mmm, were you getting any funny (hissing?) noises?

There's loads of places sell generic pipes and jointers but they're expensive, spending a bit of time searching will often yield results.

But usually Demon Tweeks have something, as Jack said.

the ally t-piece is ?16 just got to confirm the measurements of the pipe when i get home and the dump valve pipe, looks like ile have to cut the original boost pipe and remove a section to fit this in so it fits properly. the original pipe from alfa is ?90 VAT !!!!!

I'd like to see a picture, when is finished, mostly from the part that goes to the 'end' of the oem tube {towards the inlet manifold}. That's the hardest 'curve' to follow - I believe.

fitted all the intercooler pipework didnt take long but now have water leaking out the back of the engine the hose on the back has been changed already. Any ideas what it could be ?

arjunior45

have a look at the hoses or the plastic connector for the heater.
Mine {plastic connector} was gone and I there was a leak until it cracked completely and lost all the coolant in a blink of eye.
Or the small tube from the coolant expansion tank to the 'hose on the back'. This one was also burned from the egr's tube heat.

If you had already replace the big hose {with the T - piece} I thing there are no other hoses left on the back of the engine, apart the other two mentioned above.

sorry I do not, but maybe you can find it in the q4 engine workshop manual.

Nick,

No, and I do not recall where this picture is from. It's from a small collection of pictures {5 or 6 if I remember well} I have concerning a mod to the oil sump {?} to keep more oil to the bottom of it, especially during hard cornering.
It's a 'mod' like the one from the good old GTA {the Giuglia one, not the 155} which I made long time ago in my 'scalino'.
If you are interested I can post more pictures of this 'mod' {in another topic of coarse}.

Would be great if you could!!

Something else regarding this picture, can be the sump took apart without removing the gearbox? Are the sump?s bolt there accessible?

ok I'll post the pictures soon.
Do not know about the gearbox. Once I was told that it is possible to take the sump apart but that's all I can tell.

Edit: I was going to answer the question on sumps, but the 'grale has a two piece sump which is different to the Q4s (IIRC).

AlfaJack

The Q4 has the main sump bolted to the block and then another cover on the very bottom

arjunior45
05-06-09, 09:18
well, these are the pictures.
If anyone think they can be usefull in any way, it's just fine with me!

Did not find the one from the Alfa 105 series, too many cds to search, but that's the idea.

thats a very interesting approach with the sump, Nick... have you tried it out? Do you have any other pictures?

No Jim.
I've tried the corresponding one in my series '105' Giulia GT engines and had no problems at all.
You see, it was a mod from the legendary 'GTA' {do not know who first thought of it} and a must for race track use. Keeps more oil quantity at the bottom of the engine and oil pump practically never suck air {or vapors}, even at very hard corners and with the inner wheels up in the air.

You are using the Q4 for race, so go for it.
You could also polish 'like mirror' all the surfaces that are in contact with the oil drainage. A such polished surface keeps less oil on it. Can be done with the rods for example but not only.
