front suspension alfa 155 Zagato

I read that the 155 Zagato had uniballs on the front suspension mounting points. I would like that on my Q4.
Where can I get pictures etc?

although the chassis should be reinforced using uniballs I believe it's a great mod. I'm interested too for pictures or more info.

I spoke with my mechanic the other day and he told me that it is possible to have uniballs on the front suspension mounting points. He did it on a race Q4 but he does not advice this mod for an everyday car. He claims that in a years, time the noise from the uniballs will be excessive for a family car.

I don't know, in my bertone the noise is not that loud and ... I can live with it.

the uniballs can be found in the free market {car parts suppliers}. It's the attachments that you have to make {or find someone to make them for you}.
Uniballs never brake, especially the one with teflon inside, but in a year they start to be noticeable {you can hear them}. From my experience, in a street car, they last for more than 40.000 - 50.000 km {if you know how 'good' are the Greek roads}.
Steering {and handling} is much more precise and easy to control, but ...ride comfort?

I'm still thinking about them {to mount them or not} and probably I'll make up my mind as soon as the adjustable top mounts were be fitted.

Your right Nick, they need made to fit the application you intend them for. It's quite a complex machining job that gets costly when you only need four. The way forward is to gather a few raised hands and get say 6 sets, the price drops quickly then.

A quality bearing to fit in them is quite expensive at about ?30uk each and the spacers/bushes to go in the bearings add up a bit too, eight per car remember and then there's the circlips and capscrews. On a delta there is one removable pin in each wish bone that I had remade in bigger dimensions so again adding to the cost. It's good for a race car though as the castor can be dialed in perfectly by fitting suitably sized spacers/bushes.

They are available to purchase from a delta specialist here in the UK and are nearly ?600 without upgraded pins. He can't be making huge money on them though unless he had loads made.

Nik you are right, forgot all about the cost - especially when these 'specially' made parts are for a street car!
To tell you the trough, here in Greece when someone is in the 'race car' business, these parts can cost less if they are for just one car and 'passion' is the motive. But when you {or me} ask them to make more than one set, then price rise to heaven, because they are certain that it is not just 'passion' and profit 'must' be involved. And usually they want to have a salary from each set.
This is one of the reasons for not having any kind of 'industry' here in Greece and everything is imported - from ...China.

If you take the time to do the drawing an engineer would need and shop about at engineering companies rather than car specialists you see a reasonable saving on the alloy blocks and spacers then it's a case of buying the bearings from somewhere that will give you a good price. Still costs good money though.

Google Sketchup is handy if you can master it ;) free cad :cool:
