View Full Version : Rim weights.
As i got the Fiat stilo wheels in i decided to put them on a scale to check their weight. Same with the 5 spoke speedlines.
16 inch 7J black speedlines: 8,7 kg.
17 inch 7J stilo wheels: 10,8 kg
16 inch 7J black speedlines: 8,7 kg.
17 inch 7J stilo wheels: 10,8 kg
My Tecnomagnesio's are 10KG, 17" 7J.
Greetings,
Marc
Presumably this is without tyre fitted.
Does the weight of the wheels make a big difference to the acceleration response? I expect it would when starting from a stand still...

Of course ;)

I just took delivery of my new wheels today. they are 16x7 ET38 and weigh 7.5kg each - (without the center plastic bit (it weighs 100gms..)).
and only $200. each AUD.. Thats about 50p in UK money :)
I am having them powder coated a 'metallic charcoal' color before I put them on the car. Should look good with the 'red' 166 Brembos. Looks like a lot of clearance with the original calipers and rotors - but its a tight fit with the 166 stuff on.

AEZ have the Forge A model, wwhich they claim is very light... they further claim that on an Audi A6 2.5 TDI the fitment of these wheels vs the standard alloys reduced the quarter mile time by 0.5 seconds...
so it does make a difference...

Thats a mightly low profile tyre you've got there Jim.

Low low profile tyres would help even more then as they should weigh less
I am also busy with some 7,9 kg  7J 17inch wheels in 4*98.
Should cost me 350 euro for a set(4) with some help abroad.:tapedshut:
And they should have even more clearance for brakes.
After i picked what i like, probably will say good bye to 2 sets of speedlines.

The O.Z. Racing are quite good when it come sto weight. I have the Superleggera 7x16 and they are about 6,7-6,8 kg eack. The current Ultraleggera are 6,46 kg each!

I got the other set in today.
7*17 inch Rimstock pro Race 1.2 And they are 8.1 kg each. (On the site it says 7.9 kg but i don't mind.)
Plus even the template for the D2 brakes fits easily!
For anybody looking to fit big brakes they are worth a look.
